Enzo Fortress

Walking out of Topher's room, disheartened by his disagreement with my philosophy and overall lack of acceptance of his superiority.

Pitch stood quietly near Topher's doorway.
He had listened in. Perhaps just a little.

And was, overall, amused. Pleased, in fact. Because it meant that if Topher stayed? Well, with a good enough view, Pitch could easily rule this place.

"Well?" He asked Enzo, as if he had heard nothing, "You look quite... down.."

"It would seem he is too humble to accept the destiny he has..."

"Quite."

The man nodded, in agreement.
"He's a very honest boy. His friends must have changed him greatly, as he grew. Quite a shame you don't have anyone else.."

"My daughter had only one child and she was my only offspring. After Topher, my line is dead."

"But they do not have to necessarily... die.."

Pitch's smile was non-existent as he spoke, steepling his fingers together.
"I have my ways of preserving life. Though it costs a heavy price.."

"I fear nothing will prolong min life at this rate. All that keeps myself from becoming a pile of dust before thou is good fortune that I control.."

"I never said yours."

Pitch's tone had turned cold, dark, silky and manipulative.
"Your men, however.... and Topher. I can change minds. Change fate. You'd be surprised."

"And how would you do this?"

Pitch looked at his nails absent-mindedly, putting on an air of importance and uncaring.

His smile was suave and manipulating, as a bit of black nightmare sand crept from his sleeve and into his hand, where he twirled it about momentarily.

"The same way I dealt with the girl... Daisy. It just takes one fearling in the soul to help one live longer. As for Topher, well... He and I? Let us say that my words can bend him easily."

A feeling of disease was creeping from my hands to my heart to the rest of me.

"I don't wish him corrupted, only enlightened. As for thine abominations, my followers cannot be turned into those."

The sand, in Pitch's hand, swirled into a human shape. And was crushed between the man's fingers, as he clenched his hand in a fist, eyes turning to Enzo.

"Corrupted? You think I would corrupt the boy?"
A snicker, a dark shake of the head.
"You humans never cease to amaze me."

A brow raised, and Pitch smiled darkly.
"Abominations? Why, the fearlings are my men. My army. Your own men could do well to embrace their power. Like weak little Erik. You pity him... you fear for him.... and yet, with my help, he could be so much more.."

"Thou hath no encountered the evil eye much. I can tell you know not of an ability that liberates us from deceit."

"We can see malicious intention."

"Malicious intent.."
Pitch echoed those words for a moment, before straightening his shoulders.

"... I underestimated your abilities, it seems. Funny, how Topher seems to be the only one who cannot. And with your ideas of justice and power? Why, if you try and warm him me...? He might not believe you..!"

"Preposterous. He would not doubt his own kin."

"Then explain why he refuses to lead this place? To take over for your.... failed attempts? Because, Enzo... he's scared to.."

Pitch stalked forward, a predatory expression crossing his face.
"He is scared of what people think. He's not just humble. He's afraid of hurting people. Of losing those he cares for... and there's nothing you can do that will change him. That will make him believe you.."

"And thou believes yourself to be at an advantage?"

"Might I remind thou that he fears thou as much as he fears responsibility?"

Pitch gave a laugh, leaning back, throwing his head back in amusement, as the deep and syrupy sound echoed about where they stood.

"Oh, you are funny! Everyone fears me, Enzo! I am the Boogeyman! It's part of the job! And yet, I'm one of the lesser fears from the boy. So of course I'm at an advantage.."

"I'm afraid that is where thou art mistaken. Nearing death though I may be, the power of luck abandons me not."

I turn my gaze onto Pitch, clearly having an experience with the eyes that most could only describe in fairy tales. Letting my impure intentions lace itself onto Pitch like a cancer, I feel more assured knowing any creature is susceptible to probability.

Pitch could feel the putrid bad luck starting to cling to him.
His eyes widened considerably, and a snarl broke from his mouth, as he backed away, cursing the fact there were no shadows to vanish into.

This place was like a prison. A horrible prison of light.
Yet he kept a collected tone in his voice.

"You've not kept your side of the deal, Enzo. Look at all I've done for you! And yet, I haven't gotten a good feeding... or any power..."

"I am a man of my word. But this was only to serve as a reminder. The Noir boy is not to be interfered with."

"If thou seeks to feed, do so on thine own terms. And only those who are too weak to use their eyes to any use."

Pitch was quiet, for a moment or two, before his golden eyes narrowed and his lips curled to a dark, hate-filled sneer.

"Of course. I will leave young Christopher unhampered with. However... one slip up on your behalf, and I can never promise..."

The man glanced over his shoulder, his thin frame giving a small quiver in upset, as the bad luck clung stickily, like tar.
"Of course... Yet remember, there was still one that you promised me. And I await my prize."

(( Do you mind playing some of the weaker cultists? Or perhaps Topher or someone. If it's all right, I might have Pitch go and torment the weaker members. Drive them a bit mad, if that's all well? ))

Raul: Master Enzo would be most displeased by my lack of progression. He is great and I am nothing.

Pitch gave a last snarl to Enzo, before slinking away from the man, sticking close to where any shadows might be.

He quickly found his way, to where he could see a weaker member of the cult.
The shadow man stood, momentarily, nearby. And watched. Before stepping forward.
"Poor Raul," He crooned, steepling his fingers, "all alone here, weak... hated."
