'Sup Strayer.' she stood beside him, watching the scene unfold with a tiny smile of her own.

"Oh hey! You're Syd right?" Unlike the more solemn and serious members of my bloodline, I was genuinely cheerful and merry.

'Aka the stupid Desouza, yes.' she grinned now, already uplifted by his presence. 'Which one are you..?'

"Me? I'm Helm Strayer, Crest's best friend!"

My face falls a little but still tries to stay chipper, "Yeah that's me... and Crest really lost his sense of humor after that.."

'I know, he interrogated me enough times.' she saw him falter, feeling a pang of guilt. 'Sorry, death is the only way to start a good conversation around here, it's what everyone has in common..'

I laugh a little, "That's a good one!"

She nodded again, letting herself relax once more. 'You really cared about Crest huh?'

"Oh yeah, you should've seen the two of us in the day! Toilet papering Progenitor's place, whoopie cushions in the family meetings. burping powder in the water!"

I laugh loudly as I think back to all of those good times, "Of course we were the only ones who found it funny, besides my sister, but it was enough!"

'Is that all you did?' she smirked at the boy. 'Even my sister Meredia could make better pranks than that.' Sydnay teased.

"We did a LOT more, I was just citing a few examples, thank you very much!"

"Besides we had VERY strict eyes on us so our REALLY good one took a lot of time to plan!"

"Oh yeah we had a BLAST!!!"

I then look down at them, "But then, he stopped laughing after I died. Just... cold and dead, one of the other ones... boring."

"I'm glad he's opening up against though, let me tell you, he was a riot in the day!"

'Can you blame him? Grief changes people..' she didn't want to turn to see the state her sisters were in, not now. 'Hell, even one of my sisters is getting divorced as we speak, i know it. Life's too heavy.'

"Hey hey hey! None of that downer talk on my watch!!"

She stuck her tongue out at him. 'Tough, I'm depressing, it's a family trait.'

"And my family is known for serious a-holes, look how I turned out." I stuck out my tongue back.

You turned out dead. she wanted to add, but decided to hold back her usually biting comments for once. 'Hey! don't you stick your tongue out at me mister!' Sydnay joked, placing her hands overdramatically on her hips.

I adapt a snooty accent, 'And tis improper for a lady to sticketh outeth her tongueth!" I snick my nose in the air.

'But I am not a lady' she scoffed, tipping her head upwards. 'I am a woman, one which you must approach with the utmost respect!' Sydnay made a small flailing motion with one hand.

"Well EXCCCUUUUSSSSEEE me your highness...." I continue the charade, taking much more enjoyment in this than I had with anyone else in years.

ic 'That's better!' she declared loudly, stifling the small chuckles that wanted to prise themselves free of her lips. 'You must serve a punishments for your transgressions earlier..' there was a playful glint in her grey eyes.

I take a mocking bow to her, "What doth thou have to do?"

'Endure this!' she reached forward, starting to tickle him with her hands.
