'That's correct.' he resisted the urge to shuffle awkwardly, averting his gaze elsewhere.

The kitsune kept true to her word about watching Lukas. She had taken the time to explore the castle but now she was back on track, conscious that this was for the Inari more than for herself. And Rayne had to admit, Lukas didn't seem to be intending to harm the girl beside him.

She made no attempt to disguise her approach. She offered them both a polite smile as she spoke. "It's a pleasure to see you behaving for once, Lukas."

Every muscle and tendon in his body ached to tense and lash out at her, but he knew it was futile. He remained languid, staring at her with an almost lazy gaze. 'What am i, a child you need to babysit now?'

"I am merely keeping an eye on you," Rayne replied, chuckling lightly.

Pixie raised her eyebrows again, glancing between the two of them. "I'm clearly missing something here."

'This is Rayne, my stalker.' he spoke curtly, no amusement in his eyes at all.

"Hardly." Rayne rolled her eyes, but offered her hand to Pixie, which the girl shook before dropping it back to her walking stick. "I don't stalk you; I drop in from time to time, just to make sure you're not getting too out of hand."

'Basically, you believe you have some sort of duty or obligation over me. Seeing as i'm a free kitsune, you don't.' he was growing restlessly already, reluctantly detaching himself from Pixie and practically bolting to his feet.

'i don't want anything to do with you.'

Pixie scowled and pulled herself upright, leaning heavily on her walking stick as her leg stayed stiff from inactivity.

Rayne raised one eyebrow, tilting her head to the side a little. "Is that a refusal of my offer?"

'Of course it is.' he didn't bother hiding it, knowing he wouldn't have had much time anyway. 'Why would i go to a realm where i'm probably going to be stripped of my power, my tails cut off, and my body destroyed?' Lukas pursed his lips again, stopping himself from saying more than he should.

"What?" Pixie's eyes narrowed, and she turned a glare on the female kitsune. She knew she had no right to be all that angry - she and Lukas weren't exactly official, just sort of danced around each other - but the idea of that happening to him was enough to make her feel a stab of discomfort. "Oh, hell no. Not happening."

Rayne spared a sad smile for Pixie. "I'm afraid you don't have a say, my dear, but I'll respect Lukas' wishes." She returned her gaze to Lukas, bowing her head in acknowledgement.

'And besides, i have ties here.' he took a step back, reaching for Pixie's free hand. 'What are you going to do, shoot me because i care about someone?' it was a weak attempt at a taunt, pushing his luck as always.

The corners of Pixie's lips twitched, fighting the urge to smile. She threaded her fingers with his quite happily.

Rayne's gaze lingered on their joined hands, pressing her lips together in a thin line. "Of course not," she eventually said, blinking and glancing up to fix her lavender eyes on Lukas' gold ones. "Caring is not a crime. Taking advantage would be, though. Do not harm her."

It was almost said like Rayne was Pixie's mother. Pixie's expression twisted into a scowl at her words.

'Okay, no being jackasses like the rest of the male population of the human race, got it mum.' he grimaced, not tearing his gaze away. 'I do have free will y'know.' and even though i do i still wouldn't hurt her.

"But that would be no excuse to leave her broken."

"Um, hey, still here. I'm perfectly capable of looking after myself," Pixie snapped, clearly irritated by Rayne. "I'm not completely helpless. I could probably kick your ass easy."

Rayne laughed lightly, eyes glimmering with amusement. "You two make a matching pair. Equally... fiery."

'...which is still nothing to do with you.' he added, still glaring. 'I left the kitsune so i wouldn't be babysat. I'm not a child, nor am i under nayone's control.'

The thought of him losing any sort of freedom only made him more agitated.

Rayne held out her hands in surrender. "Now that I've completed the Inari's request - asked you if you wished to return - I'm here completely under my own choice." Her expression softened. "I want to be sure that this-" she gestured at the world around them, "-is the right choice for you."

"What, are you his mother?" Pixie asked, somewhat scornfully.

He gave Pixie's hand a small squeeze, speaking calmly and almost collectively. 'Trust me, i'd rather be here than be somebody's bitch. Unless of course, it's Pixie's.' he shot an arrogant wink at her.

'This is like asking the fat person if they want to eat chocolate cake or a lettuce leaf.'

"Honey, you're already my bitch," Pixie teased, using a term of endearment just to add to it.

Rayne shrugged. "I tried."

'Find another kitsune, one who's maybe not happy with the way he is.' oh wait, they'd be dead from regret. Lukas grinned lopsidedly at Pixie, placing a kiss on her cheek swiftly.

Something akin to irritation flashed over Rayne's face, the first sign of something like it. "There are kitsune who have less to answer for," she said evenly. "And yet I asked if I could find you. You have the potential to switch again, Lukas."

'And i already told you before, i'd rather be decapitated. I have too much to give up.'

"Fine. But don't think you're off the hook just because you won't come back," Rayne warned.

'Please, there are hundreds of kitsune like me, but thank you for flagging me up.' his tone was dry, verging on annoyed.
