She pulled her hands away, only to enfold them around his waist. 'I'm sorry, again. For stringing you along, for being such a bitch.' Sydnay forced her arms back to her sides, gnawing on her bottom lip in a small sign of distress.

He sighed yet again. "You're getting married, Sydnay." He said that more to remind himself rather than her.

'And what I said earlier still hasn't changed..' she peeked down at the ring. Everything for her seemed perfect on the surface, but it never was. People didn't bother to dig deeper.

He said, "If you don't think you and William connect on a deep enough level, then you should reconsider marrying him. I'm not saying this for my benefit. I have to let you go, it's obvious we aren't going to work out." He looked at her in her eyes. "Your marriage won't last if you marry him but aren't connecting with him."

'You...don't think we'll work out?' she honestly looked taken aback, meeting his gaze finally with a shocked one. it then filled with realization. 'Oh, Lethe, of course. I see.' she almost pursed her lips, but it was like she had lost the ability to.

'I'm pretty sure William wouldn't hesitate to kill me if i didn't marry him. If i'm not his, i'm nobody else's.'

"No man should treat his wife like she's his property." Her words had angered him slightly. He would have a serious conversation with William. "Yeah, Lethe. I've grown fond of her."

'It's the way of a Death Eater..' she sighed almost in irritation. 'I wish you and Lethe...the best of luck.' she tried to be happy for him, but with her pained expression she could've been mistaken for being stabbed in the chest multiple times.

"Death Eater tradition or not, that's no excuse! A woman should be cherished, not be owned." He let out a furious breath. He didn't even hear what she said about Lethe or her expression.

'You...really think that?' the pain in her face faded slightly, replaced with more surprise. He isn't such an ass after all...

but he isn't in your reach anymore. He's practically with Lethe, and William would never let you leave him. the last part of her thought made the anguish return again, and she physically turned her body away from him.

of course, she had taken Ahriman for granted.

She cast her eyes upwards to scan his expression. 'I can't believe I let you go.' she muttered to herself, knowing she couldn't hide the regret in her expression, the shame at having probably made the wrong choice, of not knowing the true value of what she had. 'What an idiot.'

'No, don't. I can stand up for myself, that's the point isn't it?' she sighed, tucking her blonde hair behind her ear. 'We're still friends, right?' she was startled how many times she said those damn words, but she must've chose William for a reason.

Either that or Sydnay just made all the wrong decisions.

He smiled. "When have we ever not been friends, chica?" He laughed and hugged her tightly. "If you ever need me to kick William's ass for you, just know, I am more than willing."

She hugged him back, finally relaxing in his embrace. 'You don't hate me, good. Just don't let Lethe get jealous, i AM engaged.' Everything seemed to have changed between the pair in an instant, but it didn't catch Sydnay out. She'd been used to constant shifts growing up.

It was comfortable, for now.

'Thank you Ahriman, really..' she broke off the hug, smiling with gratitude, something she didn't often show.

She gave him another hug, still grinning. For once her face wasn't full of pain, or venom. It triggered a forgotten memory for the girl, a happy one for a change.

One of her and her brother, before either of them had became Death Eaters...

'I'll talk to you soon, goodnight and good luck with Lethe.' she stepped back, nodding to him in respect, wandering back into the girl's dorms. In a way, Ahriman had freed her.

Ic Ahriman came down from the boys dorm, his hair slightly damp from a shower. He noticed Joe-no-John.... Ah, hell, who cares, Whats-his-face, there, reading, well looking, at a magazine. He came up to him, his smirk in place, "Hola...you."
