"Yes, it will hurt like hell when that day comes. Until then, let's just be...together." He tried to smile again. He needed to be strong for her.

I sit up slowly, crawling from the bed into his lap. 'Im sorry.'

He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly against his chest. "Whatever for, love?"

'hurting you. not telling you. leaving you. take your pick.'

"I'm sorry that you have to go through this. No one as good and kind as you should be made to suffer something so terrible."

'maybe im not good. maybe its my punnishment for....being me'

"Then sleep," he answered simply. He held her against him and rested his cheek on her hair.

"You will. I'll be here when you do."

knuckles white, rivers hands were clenched around deaths shirt as sheslept. it was obvious she was dreaming, and that she was in pain.

flashing imagez of people from my past and present wove through my dreams. father laughing as he hurt my brother. the seths dying at my hand. each image hurt more than the lsst but i could not wake up

He knew that she was in pain while she slept. He tried to comfort her by rubbing and back and kissing her head every now and then. "It's alright, love. I'm here." He murmered words of love into her ear when the pain was really bad.
