Chase wanders away through the greenhouse, giving them this moment and allowing himself to truly feel sorry for losing Query to Moriarty.

"Well... I shall watch you eagerly then, and prepare the most challenging of riddles I can for you when you... join me, eventually..."

I put the cane in my hands, fighting for every inch of ground to grab it and hand it to her, "I trust you can find out how it works..."

"And with that... let's see what the answer to.. what awaits on the other side is..."

With a lingering whimsical smile at this final pun, it was time to let myself sink into the dirt. Mere inches turned to feet as I fell out of sitting upright to the horizontal, unforgiving ground.

The black was encompassing my sight like frost on a window, starting from the edges and moving inward, further and further... until at long last it reached the center.

That was it. So ends the quizzical life of Ignatius Nashton Query.

It took a long moment for her brain to finally realise what has just occurred, staring down at Query with a shellshocked expression. The girl had internally gone to war and lost.

The world seemed harsher now, distorted even. What plants that had been flowering pleasantly before in the Greenhouse now cast sinister shadows over his body. His eyes that had once held so much knowledge and intelligence started vacantly back at her, mocking her.

'I'm sorry Chase...Query...' Even her own voice sounded wrong, like someone had stolen her voicebox and replaced it with someone else's.

He appears at her side again, hesitantly offering his arms for a hug. "He can't be harmed now, love."

She carefully unfolded her own arms, unable to tear her eyes away from Query, transfixed. 'But he was harmed because of me, people always are.' Her tone was completely deadpan and hollow.

You'd be happier, he might still be alive. She was shaking with the force of her tears, clutching Query's cane with one hand.

She ignored his comment, remaining oblivious to it for the sake of how fragile she currently was. 'I'm so sorry Chase, I am...' Ace pulled back from the hug so he could see her expression; it conveyed everything she couldn't in words.

'I don't feel strong, I feel guilty because I loved both of you. That shouldn't even be possible...' She could feel it, the beginnings of what could only be described as a constant feeling of dread and confusion.

She didn't have the strength to argue her case, simply muttering. 'This is wrong... everything's wrong..' Ace forced herself to move out of his embrace, nibbling on her thumbnail.

One of her arms reached out for him again uncertainly. Clearly part of her wanted to be in his arms, where some things made an ounce of sense. But Query had just died, she was vulnerable...

her eyes had squeezed shut, feeling a headache approaching.
'This makes no sense Chase. I don't understand myself.'

'I hope so.' the hand entwined with his tensed slightly, showing her distress without needing to open her eyes. Everything hurt, she hurt, the girl was exhausted in nearly every way possible.
