'It depend. i may not understand..' he trailed off, but still intended to listen.

"Can I ask you: what do you feel right now?"

'Curious.' he said simply, unwavering in his response as he stared back at Lewis. odd question indeed...

"Well let me tell you something Axel, I-" Lewis paused "I have no emotions; I feel nothing." He pointed to his heart, hoping to say it in a way he thought Axel could understand "My heart is broken."

'What happen to it..?' he didn't seem shocked, unsure whether he was being metaphorical or literal. 'You gonna be ok?' Axel was only concerned.

Oh, the naivety of the youth.

Lewis reassured Axel: "Don't worry, I'll be fine; its' something I did to myself."

He made a motion with his mimicking casting a spell on himself.

'Why do to yourself? emotion is foundation of life.' he shook his head, sighing slightly.

Why does everyone in this school have to make it so difficult?

Lewis explained: "My emotions were keeping me back; emotions are keeping all of humanity back. They make us perform irrational actions without thinking about them first, and can cause people to come into some serious trouble" He mimicked a knife slicing his throat, but kept constant eye contact with Axel "Let's just say: I did what I believe to be the best course of action humans can take, if we wish to evolve. Muggles and wizards alike."

He adopted a collected tone, not breaking away from the eye contact. 'But without emotion, we not make mistake. We learn from mistake, not from watching others mess up. Our action and flaws make us grow.' it was a calm statement, the smile never leaving his face.

Clearly I underestimated this person...

"We need not make mistakes as long as we think about every situation thoroughly before acting." Lewis began eating his midget gems again "As long as you are careful about what you do, there's no need to grow; you'll already be as big as you need to."

'But you can always be better, we got potential.' he tried to stress his point, brow furrowing with his difficulty speaking. 'Life not calculated formula, chance and risk play part in everything.'

Lewis pondered this for a second.

"You have an interesting hypothesis Axel" He shrugged his shoulders "But I still choose to stick by my beliefs."

"Nothing quite so specified." Lewis thought for a while on how to explain it "More like-emotions are in the way of humans making progress. Both up the technological ladder, and the evolutionary chain."

'The reason we not crushed by lions and animals larger than ourselves is bescause of conscience. No other animal got one, yet we top dogs.'

Lewis was disappointed with Axel's response; he was too soft to understand his point of view.

"I'm sorry, Axel, but I believe the reason we are higher than the animals is not because of a conscience. I mean, who decides what is right or wrong? It has been accepted by most people that everything that is considered wrong is considered as that, because it is illogical. Think about it:" Lewis made gestures with his hands mimicking a pair of scales "Killing and stealing is considered 'wrong' because they hinder other humans, and therefore are illogical in regards to the human race developing. However, helping each other is considered 'right'. This is because it allows humans to develop faster. Do you see where I am coming from here Axel?"

Lewis took a long pause; he no longer had any arguments left that felt relevant to this conversation.

"I must say, Axel, I am quite delighted by your debate abilities" Axel had earned a smile from Lewis "It's nice knowing there's someone else who has strong opinions and the arguments to defend them. Touche."

Lewis bowed his head in humble defeat.

Lewis offered Axel the remains of his packet of midget gems.

Lewis shrugged.

He didn't give Axel a chance to reconsider; he returned the packet to his satchel before before Axel could finish. Lewis began examining Axel.

"You know, I find you rather interesting."

Lewis clearly had no knowledge of personal boundaries.

Lewis held his chin up as he continued to examine Axel. He pulled himself back after concluding their was nothing physically abnormal about him.

"You appear to be quite normal compared to some of the other students I've seen here. I dare say you are the one that appears most..." Lewis paused; he wasn't sure how to put it "...human."

'You human too, believe or not. There be no scale.' he chuckled, taking it in his stride. He'd had weirder things happen..
