Hospital Wing

Pain flashes through my eyes and i turn away from him. He should know i never wanted to forget him again.

"River... I don't understand, both our lives were better when we were foes."

'Really? when we fought to truly hurt each other? When we hated each other. Do you not remember hoow we found out about this?'

"When we didn't have any conflicts with someone I had so loved?,"

'You would...prefure to have me as a stranger, and enemy....that love me as yoour sister.' I whisper. 'You can go now.'

"River... Listen."

'What?'

"Before, I was an animal, a force of destruction that spared no one. And before you were a champion of the light, who sought my redemption however implausible that was. Both of us were far more respected by our sides in this way."

"That is all I mean."

'I was someone that killed her parents when she was a child. I was someone with on one to care about. You hated to world with no reason. Do you reall want to go back to that?'

"But when you don't care or have no one to care for you, you're free of restriction..."

'You know what? you have made up your mind...ou have convinced yourself that this would be good. So go on. Forget me.'

"Not unless we do it together."

I study his face, uncertaintly in my eyes. 'What if you want to kill me again?'

"How about this? I'll stand just outside the door, and modify my memory so I'm on some task for the Dark Lord. That way I won't bother with you... at least this time." 

Despite knowing this was what was best in his eyes, he felt a sorrow grow in his breast. Everything he had regained since finding River again would be gone.

'Just...' I close my eyes, my heart breaking. 'Do it. make me forget...make you forget...'

Crouch gulped and raised his wand, "Know that I love you..." He went to fire the spell when a miracle happened.

A tear, not camouflaged by rain or anything fell from his eye. He took a step back, and then he threw his wand against a wall. 

"NO!"

I open my eyes and stare at him. I stand up and incase him in a tight hug

He fell to his knees, pushing her off him, "don't... don't you dare hold me. I almost became him..."

'No. and you know, crouch...Even if i didnt know you, i would never let you become a monster, become him...'

"So what do we do?! One of these days, one of us is going to have to either join the other or we'll end up killing each other..."

'We are going to do what you suggested. We are going to forget. Forget each other, but remember one thing. We will never kill each other. Fight, sure, argue, of course. But kill? never.'
