"The Nightmare King. The.. creator of darkness..! The boogeyman! Fear itself!"

A hint of hystaria entered the girl's tone, and it shimmered with powerful unease in her eyes.

"-You... -you don't know him?"

"Ummm, Cynda' hate to break this to you but that's just some bullshit parents made up to make their kids eat brocoli..."

Desperation leaked into Cynder's tone as she stared Joa head on, eyes shining with the look of someone who'd been through more than they deserve.

"Joa, I'm not fucking around... I'm serious, He's real..!"

"Look Cynda', I'll believe ya on a lot, but this... no way."

Disappointment flooded Cynder's face, and she slouched in her seat.

"... he's.. he's real..."

She frowned, looking quietly at her hands.
She still had light bite-scars from his jagged teeth.
"I know he is..."

"Hey hey now... none of that..." He put one arm over her shoulder, "You've had some rough nights I get ya, I get them every weekend..." He smirked as he thought of his regular binges.

Cynder's shoilders stiffened drastically, and sheshied away from the cofortingtouch.
She coild swear she saw pitch, across the room, sneer in disapproval.

"Topher knows,... and Crest, too... they saw him.. they faught him..."

Color seemed to drain out of her face, and she swallowed hard.

".... That's... that's unsafe...."

"Oh come on, it's not like I'm scared of anythin'..." What could he do anyway, can't be hurt by something that doesn't exist.

That's like trying to watch a good Shia Leboeuff movie.

If Cynder could get any paler, she did.

"....Trust me... around him, you will be scared...."


Gesturing to an empty space at a table, Cynder moved down, making sure there were shadows so the Nightmare King could arrive effortlessly.
She put a hand to her throat nervously and swallowed again, whispering a soft plea for the Nightmare King.

It didn't take long for the Nightmare King to materialize, putting his arms about Cynder and clutching her close to him, almost greedily.

"Well, well... my little Cynder... what is it you call me here for, hmm?



Cynder shuddered, looking to Joa and flicking her eyes toward Pitch, trying to gesture to him, frozen in her terror.

Joachim stared, even squinting a little to sharpen his focus. But even after that he saw nothing to back up Cynder's claim.

"Umm... Cynder, I don't know how to tell you this... so I'll just say it like this..."

"I think you need to check yourself into the funny farm because there isn't anything there."

Pitch looked up to the speaking boy. His expression grew flat. A non-believer.....
Well, it hardly mattered. Cynder had called him here. He needn't bother about a stupid boy.


Pressing his lips to the girl's neck and gently biting into her soft flesh, he didn't break skin... not yet. He wouldn't give away his position. Especially not when he could separate Cynder from her friends.


The girl, herself, was quivering, tears gathering in her eyes.
"... Joa... I'm... I;m not mental.."

"Well, I'm not blind and I clearly see NOTHING there... the boogeyman ain't real.."

Pitch tensed, as did Cynder.
The man broke skin, and beads of blood rose over the puncture marks.





Cynder was pleading, now, eyes scared, face drained of all color.
"I'm not mad... I'm not mad, Joa, I promise.. he's real... he's real..! Can't you see him? He's right here, Joa..."

"Cynda'... look with me..." He waved his hand in the area where she was pointing, just feeling the air between his fingers, "Not jack shit."

Pitch hated the feeling of a body phasing right through him.
Cynder hated seeing it. It wouldn't work her her.....
But the Man was not allowing her to move to touch him, now. He clamped a hand over her arm, keeping her limbs locked to her body.
"Ah-ah..." He whispered, "No showing out little secret..."


Cynder merely whimpered.

"Look Cynda', ain't their enough to worry about in life with inventin' some spooky invisable guy?"

"N-no...... No, he's real....... He's real, Joa.... I swear...!"

Cynder had tears welling up in her eyes, now, Pitch was grinning from ear to ear.

"Please.... Joa, I can... I can show you... I can draw him.... please... you need to believe me...!"

"You're gonna have to, cause I ain't believing any of that crap..."

Cynder was quick to clutch through her bag for a drawing book and a pencil.
She hardly needed to draw anything new, though. As soon as the book was opened, it was clear that that man had been the only thing on her mind.
Images of him were scrawled, page after page after page through the book.

She began a new sketch, of herself, of him clinging to her like he was.
The dark spirit hardly objected, biting her neck still, once more loosing little hickeys and bruises on her skin.

This amount of detail... And obvious Cynder wasn't the type to screw with him. "What's he saying?"

A long-fingered hand reached up to grast Cynder's throat completely, now.

All he did was give a purr, a satisfactory and seductive sound.

"He's... p-purring-...."
