The Owlery

"Hmmm..." I give it a steady looking over, "What's it powered by?"

"Uh, itself, I think." Tony swung his rucksack around, rooting through it. "Dad might've put- ah, here. Wow, he's actually useful for once." He pulled out a file, flicked through it to confirm what it was and held it out. "Should tell you all you need to know on how it works."

"Thanks!" I take the file and start reading through it. This truly was a work of brilliance. Even I couldn't think of a power source that was 100% self reliant. "This is incredible..."

Tony merely shrugged, letting the rucksack rest on the floor by his feet. "It keeps me alive, so that's a bonus." Really, it had just been lucky that he'd had the materials on hand to make the original; the arc reactor in his chest now was a new one, rebuilt with the luxury of time.

"That's all quite interesting, let me guess, it stops something from entering your heart, yes?"

"Yeah, shrapnel." Tony moved over to point at a particular paragraph of the file. "Kidnapping gone wrong. Some people thought it would be clever to hold me ransom for a whole lot of money." His lips quirked into a mischievous grin. "I don't think they realised that I'm probably smarter than my father, and definitely capable of kicking their asses."

Of course, he'd come out with scars. The arc reactor was proof of that.

I hold my hand up for a high five, "That's pretty badass!"

Tony can't help but grin and high five him, tentative hope in his eyes. It's refreshing to receive praise instead of being brushed off. "I know, right? They never saw it coming. They thought the attack would come from outside, not inside."

I laugh triumphantly, "Oh man we're going to have fun together kid!"

His smile is full blown then, no hesitancy in sight. "I like you," he decides aloud. "I can tell you'll be a better teacher than my dad ever was. We're gonna be the best engineering duo ever to grace the planet, you'll see."

"Sweet! So tell me, what do you know so far? I want to know what kind of slate I'm working with."

Now this, this is Tony's element. He turns a couple of pages in the file and gestures at a more detailed look at his kidnapping. There is an image of a sort of metal suit he created to escape, now encased in glass back at his father's house. There's clearly room for improvement on it.

"I built that to get out," he says, nodding at it. "Fully functional weapons - basic, but they work. It flew a bit too, but unsteadily. I didn't have much to work with."

"Hmmmmm.... a man operated suit of advanced armor. I tried this once, but it wasn't operated by a person it just did it on it's own."

I grind my teeth together, "Results weren't that promising. Let's leave it at that."

Tony scratches the back of his neck and admits, "It didn't do much more than get me out. It doesn't work anymore, hasn't since it crashed."

His eyes light up, and he smiles brightly at Artisan. "Maybe we could work on it - well, technically it's up to you, since you're the teacher and all, but we've both got experience, I dunno, maybe we could get something good out of it!"

"Yeah! Let's give it a go! I mean, thing of all the aurors that could be saved with this kind of invention!"

"See, this is why I said we were going to be the best." Tony actually punches the air with a smile.

"This is going to kick ass! So hey, what else do you have in the bag, anythign that could help us out?"

"My knowledge? My awesomeness? Dad's basically limitless funding?" Tony raises his eyebrows and shrugs.

"Yeah we'll get along nicely." I conclude with finality.

"Are you sure we aren't brothers, because I see a kindred spirit in you, my friend." Artisan's certainly the best person Tony's come across in a long time, especially considering he shows interest in Tony's ideas.

"Here I'll take you to my workshop, we can get started!" I pu t my arm on his shoulder brotherly like.

Tony grins, leaning down to sweep up his rucksack and dump the file back in it. "You have your own workshop? Awesome."

I smirk at him, "Brother you've seen NOTHING yet."
