He shrugged "it's sort of a hobby really. I love expanding on this place. Like the platform is specifically for training so you can't be thrown from it and its actually got a seriously soft landing though it's strong enough to keep you standing as though it were concrete."

Brogan had to admire the practicality this place could serve, feeling a new shred of respect for the man, "how do you purpose we do this?"

"well are  you better at invading some one else's mind or keeping others out?"

"I've never bothered with any suck works. I've never needed to know what they're thinking, they're just mindless monsters..."

He threw his jacket off to the side onto a chair as he stepped onto the platform " see bro that's where you're wrong. They can be cold and calculating.... their minds working constantly on what to do next to get more power. You have to admit thats a prodigious amount of intellect."

Sapphire perched on one of the potion counters watching both boys closely a sprig of lavender twirled lightly between her fingers.

"Just tell me where to start? Also how much rage do I need?"

He chuckled a little "none what so ever. Really you need to void yourself of all emotions so as not to trigger memories."

"None?" He glanced at his mentor puzzled, as this contradicted what he'd been taught about magic, "But I was taught magic is based in emotion, especially rage."

Garret shook his head "dude you got taught seriously wrong.. rage does nothing but keep us blind. Void the emotions and you have full focus on what is necessary and logical."

"How can I do that?" He asked hopelessly, that sheer driving anger was all. He had in his life for many years.

"Its not too hard.. just clear your mind. Think about absolutely nothing... if you can void all your emotions and I won't be able to access your mind."

He took a deep, meditative breath as his eyes were blocked by his eye lids. He tried to empty his thoughts, think of nothing...

But as he sat there, he found the task infinitely more difficult than it sounded. By the end of a minute he was gritting his teeth together trying to force the thoughts out as he shouted, "Come on! Concentrate!"

"It takes more than a minute to clear your mind..just think of absolutely nothing..like your mind is an abyss." He thought for a ,moment "or Sapphire can mix you up something."

"Like what?!" Brogan yelled at him as he clearly hadn't gotten over his failure to do this himself.

Sapphire was already rifling through cabinets pulling down vials and an odd array of ingredients begging to cut ingredients as the cauldron heated next to her "I'll make you a mind clearing tonic. basically a speciality of mine for when I need just absolute mental peace."


Garret perched on the platform watching Brogan "look it's pretty obvious you've been through a lot, but anger and hate will get you no where. If you cling to them all you'll end up doing is getting yourself hurt or killed.. or worse putting Sapphire in danger."

Brogan knew the last possibility was very real. He didn't care much for what became of himself but Saphire's life was not one he was willing to jeopardize.

"But how do I get rid of something I've had every day? You say, empty your mind and void emotion, but... how can I do that?" He held no understanding of inner peace nor the smaller joys in life, such as taking a fresh breath realizing he was taking in life itself.

"No one said you were going to master this in an hour.. it takes practice and the ability to let go of everything negative. This is probably going to be some of your most intense training just because it is the opposite of everything you've been taught, but I promise if you can master this you can master anything."

"I... don't know if I can do this.."

She stepped over to him a smoking goblet that smelled strongly of vanilla in her hand "you'll ever know unless you try.. and I think this should help."her smile was warm and loving "I know you can do this.. you're going to be the one to bring Crouch down finally."

Brogan took the goblet and sipped it, letting the liquid cascade down his throat as suddenly...
the bad in the world became but a memory away. Something he had to focus on rather than just thinking it automatically. The muscles in his shoulders loosened at once and deep breath was found easier.
