"And why can we not? Because the mice tell us we can't?"

"Because without mice, the owls will starve."

Ged spoke firmly, slamming his staff upsettadly into the ground.

"And without owls, the mice will overrun the earth. We hold a special balance, Boniface..!"

"I find this lamentable, old friend..."

I sigh in regret and close my eyes, "Please do not get in my way, if thou does, I'm afraid misfortune in groups can be disastrous..." I gesture around to the other shapeshifters.

Ged shuddered at the threat.

"I will not go against you, old friend. But I will not stand with you. If you change your mind, choose to live in peace with us.... I will welcome you back."

"I shall bring us all peace, old friend, just as I stated before, don't get in my way."

"Before I depart, do you know of where this Christopher Noir of One Point is?"

The Shapeshifter scowled, turning away from Boniface.

"I do not know where Topher is,"
He spoke quietly, "But he attends Hogwards school, as far as I know. Do not bring harm to the boy, or my niece Cynder will greatly be upset."

"She was your niece? I suppose now I see the resemblance."

Bushy eyebrows rose in surprise, almost worry.
"You met her?"

"Yes, she was less than helpful in my search for him..."

"Oh, she would be.... she is protective over her friends..."

He gave a small smirk, in thoughtfulness.

"... I give you my good wishes, Boniface. Do not find yourself hurt."

"Thine fears are wasted in worrying about mine health."

"So long as these eyes can see, I am invincible." With that I begin walking out.

"Then let us hope that those eyes find darkness forever.."


Ged muttered under his breath, glancing back at the retreating figure, feeling remorse, before wandering to the iron works to think about what had happened.

(( uh huh. c: I love this sort of broken friendship relationship between Ged and Boniface. I can't wait to see where that goes.

Joachim found his way to Ged's place and knocked on the door... or rather banged on it for all he was worth.

Ged had taken the day off from working in the fields. The women, by now, were all at home with their husbands, relaxing.


Yet, he'd planned a peaceful evening... not...
this.



Ged stood as soon as he heard the pounding. This was serious. He didn't shout or hesitate, he merely went straight to the entryway and opened the door.


"Ah, Joachim--- ......" The man noted Cynder, and his expression darkened. "Come in, come in..."

"Ged, please tell me ya know how to fix this.." He gestured to Cynder in her present state. He had let her down, no one else but him.

The Shapeshifter examined his niece quietly, a scowl darkening over his scarred face.
Gently, he stooped to take her from Joa's arms.


"... Who did this to her, Joa?"

"........... me." If one thing never crossed Joachim's face, it was shame. He could rob gringotts, set fire to an old ladies cane, and pop a child's balloon while stealing his candy and not even turn in his bed, but today... it was written like a book in fresh ink all over his countenance.

Soft silence, Ged gestured with a nod for Joachim to enter the house.
The man, himself, turned to take Cynder to a couch and lay her down; she was tossing and turning, mid-nightmare. She didn't wake up.


Silently, Ged turned and put his hands on Joa's shoulders.
"Now, Joachim, my boy. Who really did this to her?"

"I already told ya! Me! I was facin' some spooky piece of shit and thought he was bluffin' when he took Cynda. It ain't anyone elses fault but mine!"

"Joa, even you could not cause such Nightmares as th-"

Ged cut off.
His expression blanked, and he straightened, turning to face where Cynder was.

"... the Dark Man....."
