Moriarty's Mansion

Jim turns them over in his hands one by one, inspecting each camera and noticing every little nick in its plastic casing and, most importantly of all, checking for anything he's missed. When he's looked through each one, he stares into the final one. Anyone who's watching the feed will only see Jim watching with a carefully blank expression as he sorts through his thoughts.

As he looks through one of the cameras an image of Query seems to float on the table, "Hello Jimmy, this is it. The end of our game. I'm a little disappointed I couldn't be there to see it but at least I get the last laugh in the end."

He doesn't seem surprised by it. In fact, he looks almost bored. Jim rolls his eyes, sighing dramatically. "Am I going to have to endure your dull speaking, or can I make comments that you will respond to, I wonder?"

I smirk at him and pull out a series of cards from my coat, The first one reads '5'.

The next was '4'.
Then '3'.
'2'
'1'

"Congratulations, dear, you can count. Is this supposed to be a warning? It seems very poor to me."

The last card was zero and at this, the camera projecting my image explodes in a fiery ball of deceiving magnitude given how small it's container was.

He hisses and throws the camera into the fireplace, barking, "Joachim!" as he leaps to his feet. Snatching his wand from his pocket, Jim casts a simple Aguamenti in an effort to quench the flames around him.

I jump up from my chair and run over, 'THE HELL WAS THAT?!"

"Query," Jim spits. "Get those cameras outside - now. At least out there they won't do any damage."

Another image appears, "I wouldn't do that if I were you. They're rigged to motion detectors now, any movement or leaving the room and they'll blow."

"You should have stayed dead," he snarls.

The thing with Jim is that when he's irritated, he hides it. But when he's furious, well, he doesn't. He lets it show, and it often shows just how insane he is, too.

With an angry glare at the devices, Jim paces back and forth across the room.

"Oh....welll.... fuck."

"Eloquently put," he growls. "There must be some way to disarm them, somehow..." Jim halts by the window, shoulders hunched. "The idiot..."

Everything was set.

Jim had had the dining room set up. In the centre of the table was the odd plate of snack food, and by each of the places was a goblet, waiting for a drink of the guest's choice to be poured into it.

The room itself was grand but in a subtle way. There was a fire crackling merrily in the fireplace. There were a couple of servants standing by the door that led to the kitchen, but otherwise Jim was alone.

The man himself stood by the fireplace, waiting for his guests to arrive.

I find my way inside, finding myself to be relieved to be able to act like myself.

He turned, a slightly amused look on his face. Crouch had come along, good. Jim had been hoping that he would turn up.

He was the one who might end up being the most problematic, after all.

"Evening, Crouch. I trust you are well?"

"Jimmy old chum.." I grin crazily, "I must say this was unexpected given our last... impression."

He waved his hand, chuckling. "Oh, I rather think we just got off on the wrong foot. We're quite similar, you see, so I wasn't surprised that our personalities... clashed in such a spectacular way."

"So what are we all doing here? I presume there's more than me coming? Granted, I'm probably the main event but still..."

"You'll see soon enough. And I promise that I have no intentions of causing any of you any trouble." Jim sounded sincere in his words, and he actually was for once. "I just wanted to gather you all for a small chat."
