IC He wandered through the trees until he saw Crouch. "What're you doing out here in solitude? It's not like you."

"Just out for a nightly stroll... what brings you out here?"  He lied so evenly, he could've fooled a polygraph.

"I was looking for you actually. I've some...business we need to discuss." He held his tone and didn't show anything on his face about the type of business they needed to talk about.

"And just what might that be?"

"My wife. I've heard recently that you tried, again, to kill her. What is it about her that just makes you so furious that you wish to rid the world of her? Please, tell me." Once again, he kept his voice calm, almost curious.

Well, I suppose this means I can't lie about Eugene doing it.


"Because she's not one of us. You know your beliefs, that's why you took the mark!" He showed him his dark mark.

"Death, you must accept the simple fact that she betrayed the Dark Lord. And you know the dark lord doesn't take prisoners for treason."

"What the Dark Lord does with her is his own business, not yours. I'm sick of you abusing your authority. You do everything because you want to. Not for the good of the Death Eaters or the Dark Lord. It needs to stop Crouch. You're on a power trip."

"I'm sorry but..." He chuckled a bit, "From here you're making it sound like you're committing treason as well..."

"I'm not. I'm simply helping the Death Eaters by saying that you're getting full of it. You need to take a step back and let someone else take over for a bit."

"I suggest your recommendation for this supposed new leadership be well thought out... for if it isn't, I can't see this ending well for you, Dolohov!" His eyes constricted into narrow slits and he could feel a deep eagerness to strike down this rival should he try to invade on his reign.

"Just temporarily Crouch. I'm not asking for you to betray the Death Eaters, I'm just saying that you're getting cocky. You're testing your power. It needs to stop before the Dark Lord finds out and puts a stop to it himself. Trust me, he won't be as merciful as I am being right now."

Those words left his mouth better than he thought they would. He almost wanted to believe his words.

"I am the Dark Lord's Fist here, he entrusted this place to me!"

"And I am your second, I am to tell you when you're doing shit job, and frankly, you're doing a shit job!" He held his ground. He wasn't going to back down to Crouch. He bowed to no one but the Dark Lord, himself. "Crouch, you're being irrational. Think about this for once, damn it. If the Dark Lord finds out that you've been doing stuff for your own personal gain, he'd kill you without hesitation. He's merciless to that sort of thing. You and I both know this best."

"Don't make a stupid mistake and lose your life because of it."

This seemed to make the boy fearful, "But.. he wouldn't strike me down... I'm the closest he has to family. He told me so himself..."

He chuckled and shook his head. "Maybe then, but not anymore. Look at him, just take a step back and look at where he stands. He's surrounded by those who are devoted to him and his cause. When was the last time he contacted you personally? Crouch, he's not the same as he was when he first found you."

Crouch leaned against a tree and slowly dropped to the ground, his hands started to tremble and his wand fell from his sleeve, "This is punishment. What happened with Eugene and Lewis, this is His way of punishing me for my avarice..."

He sighed, he disguised it as pity, but it really was in relief. "Crouch, look, you need to take a break. Get your head together and then we'll come back like a bat out of hell. I can't let you continue this recklessness because I know you'll only get into worse trouble. I don't want to lose a good leader."

He stepped closer. "Let me handle things for a while, while you get yourself back together."

"Yeah... yes... do that... I need to re-learn from my master..."

He approached his brother. "Look, don't take my words too harshly. I'm looking out for you. You've not been yourself recently. I want Crouch Jr. back. Go get him and then we can continue as if nothing's happened."

"Come on, let's get a firewhisky. My treat."

"Okay..." He stood up gracefully, brushing himself off and following his friend.

Smoke bellowed into the leaves as Joachim stood leaned against a tree, enjoying his pipe. It was one of the few things he had left from his dad Yasef and he took reverent care of it. Some would say he groomed it better than he groomed himself.

She fake coughed as she parted the branches, rolling her eyes as she spoted the boy in front of her. 'I should have known it was you making it look like the forest was burning.'
