happens before lukas/lethe or whatever

ic Lukas had his head rested against the stairs, stretching out accross them and mostly hindering people's paths. He really didn't care however, simply staring at the ceiling with little interest.

Lewis dragged himself up the stairs, his head hanging so low he nearly headbutted each successive stair that he approached. He noticed Lukas, and reached into his satchel.

"Jawbreaker?" He asked, extending his arm revealing a sweet-looking red jawbreaker.

'Sure.' he reached for it, grabbing it and placing it in his mouth, nodding in gratitude. 'How've you been my friend?'

Lewis had not time for small talk, or tolerance for that matter.

"I met your 'friend' Crouch in the Forbidden Forest recently."

'ah, so that's what his suspicions were about.' the pieces clicked together easily in his head, nodding. 'What did he say?'

"He appears to trust you completely, though I doubt you are truly loyal to him?"

'Depends on what you classify as loyalty. It's a different concept to me. I have no real ties to anyone.' he was surprised how smoothly the lie leaked out of his lips.

"Well, I presented him the same dilemma I did to you." Lewis retrieved three jelly babies from his satchel to remind Lukas "He seemed to question who the third jelly baby represents, which leads me to believe he is not aware of your intentions."

'That's correct. I'm undecided on my standing however. Me and Crouch have a fairly stable contract, it may serve us better if we pooled our resources.'

Lewis tilted his head to the side, throwing a jelly baby into his mouth.

"It was to my knowledge that, should a war come, you wouldn't 'pick sides'"

'Technically, i'm already on a side.' He produced the contract he had with Crouch. 'No Death Eater can harm me, but in return i give occassional service, nothing special.' he shrugged.

'But if needs be, i will indeed make my own side, or remain impartial. It's what i did last time.'

"I do respect someone who honours their contracts."

A thought came to Lewis' mind.

"Do kitsunes usually make such contracts with humans? Or is it just the special ones like Crouch?"

'Crouch isn't even remotely human.' Lukas stated flatly. 'He's a vampire/werewolf hybrid, so i can.. amend my contracts for supernatural beings.'

He sucked on the jawbreaker on his mouth for a moment. 'But no, only certain kitsune can.'

Lewis kept that in mind.

"And do the contracts differ from person to person?"

'Of course.' that was completely obvious. 'why?' he had to admit, he wasn't one for excessive questioning.

"I just want to know my friend better."

Lewis threw another jelly baby into his mouth.

'I've been upgraded to friend status?' he raised one brow, still rolling the jawbreaker around in his mouth. 'Even though i'm a fox spirit who is supposed to screw everyone over?'

Lewis shrugged.

"You're the closest I've ever had."

He stared Lukas in the eyes, trying his hardest to show some emotion.

Lukas blinked, taken aback. 'Well i uh, i appreciate it, i really do.' his smile was friendly this time, devoid of its usual malice. 'I didnt need a contract o befriend you.'

"No, you don't. You need only not insult and cross me like so many others".

'I see no logicality in making you an enemy.' he stated plainly, rolling his shoulders. 'it would do me no favours at all.'
