I open just one of my eyes, not trusting to open the other for fear of sensory overload. It was hardly a squint but it was all I needed to see...

'What do you want Topher?' her tone was curt, almost harsh as she watched Madam Pomfrey find some medicine for her.

I smirk a little, "Well I want this bruise on my head gone for starter's..." i chuckle a bit before noticing her demeanor and I get serious,

"Are you alright?"

She knew she was being too harsh for her own good, but she wasn't prepared to let her barriers down, not even for him. 'I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?'

Amaya tapped her foot impatiently, expression similar to a brick wall, defensive.

"Well call me a keen observer I guess..." I shrug, "But honestly, ya know you can talk to me right?"

'That's where you're wrong Topher, I can't talk to you about shit.' it hurts too much. she added in her mind, fists unwittingly clenching. 'I never can and I never will.'

I won't have to once I'm gone.

'I'm leaving.' it was to the point, like she always was when she was afraid, not bringing down her internal barriers.

"Wait.. wha...?" I look at her in shock, "leaving? What happened?!"

'Ya really want to know?' She stared at his form for a long moment, remaining unreadable. Yet there was an intensity in her gaze that would probably frighten most people.

"C'mon, after all the years I spent with Chimmy, there can't be ANYTHING you can say that can be that bad." I pat a part of my bed, gesturing for her to sit.

"I'd walk over myself but I don't want to faceplant... again."

She remained where she was, inhaling sharply with the stream of confessions that was about to escape her lips.

'I'm leaving because there's nothing left for me here, it hurts just being in this place. My siblings are dead, one's gone insane and the other doesn't need me. I'm in a marriage that's flatter than still water, I've cheated on my husband and I'd happily do it again.'

Amaya sighed, finishing it off. 'And the guy I thought could've made me happy is the one wearing an engagement ring to someone else.' she didn't meet his gaze, refusing to acknowledge the tears now running down her face.

I decide to risk another fall to stand up, relying heavily on the bedknobs to bring myself over to Amaya and wrap her in a hug,

"Hey now..." I pat her back.

It was in that moment she completely fell apart, sobbing into his shoulder. 'I'm so fucking unhapy Topher, I can't stay at Hogwarts, all it does is bring me pain.'

She exhaled, trying to summon her thoughts into something comprehendable. 'Then you understand why I need to go, perhaps i can find someone, like you found Potion.'

I just wish this person didn't feel like the one hugging me right now.

"I didn't want to get attached to anyone. Sure maybe have a good time before I left but that was it."

"Life ain't easy and I know you've had it rough recently. So my thinkin' is this. Running ain't gonna fix ya problem. Let me help ya fix the existin' ones..."

She laughed to herself, but it lacked humour, it was simply ironic and scathing. 'You don't see it, do you?'

'The problem is you, Topher. It hurts me to see you with someone else, I can't take it anymore because i know you'll never care about me in the way I want you to.' This was the most honest Amaya had been for months, stepping out of his reach.

'I thought marrying Tomas would make it better, that my feelings for you would go away. But they won't until I never see you again.'

She still loved me, even after all we went through.
