Query's Maze

"Now Eagle, throughout you're whole life you've lived through others. Sure you've been the brains, supposedly, behind the operations but you never put yourself at risk."

Secretly I change the video feed in Ace's cell to show Eagle, so she too could bare witness to how little Eagle actually cares for her.

"Today I'm changing that. Now you have a choice here, play my game or if you tell me who you really are, I'll let you see Ace. Right now."

He squeezes his eyes shut, his heart giving a painful throb in his chest. Of course he wants to see Ace, of course he does, but-

He can't.

He physically CANNOT reveal his identity to anyone, especially Query. He just can't. He doesn't trust Query one bit; his name is all he has to give when he trusts someone like Ace completely, so he can't give it.

The pain over making the decision is clear on his face. Chase actually lifts his hands to his hand and tugs at his hair. When he speaks, his voice is soft.

"... I'll play the game..."

"As I expected... you don't love her, you love only her mind."

"So the game continues."

In front of him were two samurai statues that had red and blue armor on, each one was guarding a door with the same coloring.

"These samurai live a moral lifestyle don't you think? Or is it all a red herring? Ask them your question about their door, and see what fate has in store."

"Hold on a moment," he snarls, dropping his arms to his sides. "Of course I love her! You don't understand, Query! I'm torn, you see? I'm not just... me but also Eagle: part normal person, part justice. I'm torn between the two!"

Forgetting the game, he glares at the ceiling, as if daring Query to challenge his love for Ace again.

"And yet here I am, just one person, simplicity to a riddle. I am all you never could be, the first of which being mentally superior. You're nothing next to me."

"A superior man wouldn't need to kidnap his rival's girlfriend and put said rival through tests to prove his intelligence. A superior man is respectful, Query, and you are not."

"You have no right to speak of respect when you parade yourself a genius despite relying on everyone for everything."

"But that aside..." I press a button to return the feed in Ace's cell to the regular classical conditioning.

"You've just proved how you value yourself over Ace. This game could've been over if you just told me your name. But sadly that time has past. Now you can't tell me your name. I must get it myself. Those are the rules."

"At least he's not being boring," Jim chuckles. When Chase glares at him sharply, he holds his hands up in surrender, still smiling.

Curling his hands into fists, Chase takes a deep, calming breath. "What do I have to do." It isn't a question; it's a demand.

"I've already told you. My what a simpleton. You may ask the samurai statues a single question you may have about the doors, one always tells the truth and the other always lies."

"In case it's unclear to you, that means only one question that you have to ask both statues."

Chase is silent as he thinks. He wracks his brain for a clever question to ask, one that would give them the answer.

OOC: God, I actually need to think about this one. Give me a few.

the longer you take the more Ace gets brainwashed....

"Orrrrrr.... there's an alternative for YOU Amaya."

While Jim listens with interest, Chase closes his eyes and covers his ears with his hands, concentrating on thinking alone.

"If you lay the killing blow on Eagle before the samurais do... you can take your sister right now."

I push a button which makes the samurais charge for Eagle, a katana in each hand.

"Come now, Query, that's hardly fair is it?" Jim pouts, but stays out of the way.

Chase pulls out his wand, eyes snapping open again. He sends a brief, grateful glance at Amaya, before moving back from the samurais as fast as he can, still thinking.

I show this footage to Ace as well, showing her more footage of how little they cared for her.

"Nice to know how little she's cared for. It would seem what I did was a kindness."

The Samurais block the daggers but continued toward eagle, bringing down one of their swords toward him.
