Snape's Office

Snape walked into his office, ran his fingers through his hair and sighed in frustration. What has he done? Expressing his loved for a student? Cynder could get in trouble. And it would be his fault. He sat at his desk and began to think.

Cynder paused outside of the office door, breathing lightly and soundlessly.
Her nervousness was expressed through her ahape-changing ability, causing her ears to lengthen like that of an elf, and she stood stock still, shuttering, her ears growing and shortening at her will.
For a moment, she considered walking in, or at least knocking, but she paused.
Maybe it be better to go in as something else? She was considerably weaker since the exorcism of the Raptor, and she could only hold a full body change for a while, depending on the size.
Irritably, the girl shook her head.
No. It wouldn't be right.
Finally, she made up her mind. Swalloing, Cynder reached up a fist and gently knocked on the door.

Snape didn't look up. "Come in."

Cynder scowled slightly as she pushed the door open and slid into the room.
The quiet girl paused ans stared at Snape for a moment, her eyes full of a questioning air.
Realizing the sudden expression in the air, Cynder frowned.
"I'm sorry, is... is this not a right time..? I just wanted to ask you something, but... but I can go, if you want to be alone right now.."

Snape looked up at the sweet voice and smiled. "Miss Dustypaws, ask away." Snape tried to control himself.

Cynder blinked slightly. She wanted to ask if he was sure, but her own voice was ahead of her thoughts at the moment.
"... Why me..?"

Snape smiled. "I could ask you the same thing, Miss Dustypaws."

Cynder blinked and a weak smile flickered over her lips before fading away again.
She paused, and thought it over for a moment.
"I just... when i came I saw you as... as someone deeper then what everyone says you are... I guess it started out that way.. and grew into.."
Cynder scowled a bit then shrugged.
"I'll just go then, shall I..?" She muttered, turning to leave.

"Miss Dustypaws, wait!" He stood up and grabbed her by her hand. "Please, wait. . ."

Cynder blinked and paused, looking at Snape with curious eyes.
"Yes..?"

"Do you know who Lily Evans was?"

Cynder blinked, question in her eyes.
"Lily... Evens..?" The name sounded familiar, in a way. Hadn't there been a Lily Potter? She couldn't remember. Besides, there must have been hundreds of girls named Lily.
Cynder frowned slightly and shook her head, a small shrug adding to her cluelessness.
"I don't think I've heard of a Lily Evens."

Snape bit back so many insults. Not about Lily, but to her lazy, arrogant husband. Stupid James Potter. "She is now know as Lily Potter. You remind me of her Miss Dustypaws. . . Beautiful but sadly, you attract fools." Snape began remembering James and how he loathed him.

Cynder blinked solemnly.
She knew who Lily Potter was.
At Snape's words, she looked down. Anything to keep her eyes from his face. She didn't know why, but she couldn't bring herself to look straight at him.
"You knew her, didn't you..?" She asked softly, gaze lingering on the floor.

Snape closed his eyes and whispered, "I didn't only know her. . .I-- I loved her. . ."

Cynder;s mouth twitched slightly as she bit her lip, tring to keep from a dropped jaw.
She turned and looked Snape in the face, now.
How she adored his features... harsh and strict, but wonderful and handsome.
He had loved Lily Potter?
Cynder tilted her head to the side lightly, her eyes full of a deep sadness and sympathy.
"If... if it's not too much to ask... what.. what happened..?"

Snape's voice turned dangerous and low. "What happened? She fell in love with the famous 'James Potter'. He was a lazy, arrogant git."
Snape's voice became softer. "You remind me of her. That's why I defended you from Mr Mortis.'

Cynder's eyes softened and her expression was filled with gentle sorrow.
"I... I'm sorry.. I never knew.." For some reason, her voice cracked.
Why was she so sensitive all the time?
Softly, the thin girl lifted a hand and placed it on Snape's shoulder with gentle sympathy.
"Thank you for defending me..." she spoke, looking him in the eye, soft sorrow in her tone and gesture.
"I.. I truly am sorry..."

Snape looked up at Cynder, sorrow in his eyes too. "I'm sorry also. . ." He hugged Cynder, trying not to cry.

Cynder didn't move while in his arms.
She just hugged him right back, closing her eyes.
"Whatever happened... I truly am sorry. I'll always be here for you, I want you to know.." she whispered, unable to keep the tremble from her voice.

Feeling Cynder hug him felt good. "I'll be here for you too." Snape smiled. "What do you want me to know?"

Cynder smiled weakly.
"I Only want you to know that... I.. I love you. I always will...."
