The Leaky Cauldron

"You can't help me." He was shaking now with the effort to hold his outburst in.

"KEVIN!" Temp shouted in his ear.


That was the straw that broke the camel's back. He let out a hoarse cry as the built up magic burst from his body.

Sam is knocked back, gasping in surprise.  She doesn't know what to do...

After the outburst, Kevin curled in on himself, sobbing his apologies. He kept repeating that he was sorry because he didn't know what else to say.

After a few minutes pass, Sam gets up and closer to Kevin again.  Slowly and gently, she wraps her arms around him in a hug.

"I'm so sorry, Sam. Forgive me?" He didn't hug her back, he just held onto himself.

"Of course... I know what it's like, to lose control of power."

"I didn't mean to. She made me. She always makes me."

"It's okay..." Sam's voice is soft and gentle, like a mother would be to her child. "It will all be okay..."

He slowly calmed down, his breathing returning to normal. "I've got to go," he muttered.

"Okay... I'm here for you, if you ever need to talk." Sam understands the loss of control over power. A power you never asked for. She understands the want for solitude as well.

He stood and left the Leaky Cauldron without a word. He needed to get away from people, to seclude himself and sink into his mind.

He sat in a corner of the bar, nursing a butterbeer, and trying to keep a hold on the whirlwind that was going on in his head. Everyone that had ever occupied a space in his head was fighting, arguing over each other, and as a result Kevin had a constant headache.

He didn't know what brought it on, but he just wanted it to stop.

Crest sat down, for the first time in his life with no ulterior motive. He wasn't spying on anyone, looking to interrogate anyone or doing anything productive. He was just sitting down enjoying, or rather trying to enjoy, a drink.

For reasons unexplainable, it made him even more antsy than if he was on a mission. Ever since he had been revoked as an auror, he felt more on edge going through more mundane faculties of life than if he was risking his life. 

It felt so... purposeless. He felt so purposeless. He wasn't meant to live this kind of life. He lived the life he did so others could live like this, not him.

He tensed when he saw the man that had arrested him sit at a table near where he was. He tried to stop his body from trembling in fear, but it was all for naught.

The voices in his head picked up on his fear and only grew louder. He let out a small whimper of frustration and rose to retreat to the room he was renting upstairs.

Crest looked over to see the frightened man he had wrongly arrested a while back. He scurried away as though he were a demon from the past.

Crest couldn't blame him. He'd done him a great wrong and it seemed unlikely he'd be forgiven. 

Wishing to make amends, he followed him silently.

Unaware of the man following him, he reached his room and fumbled with the key. He was still shaking and the voices were only growing louder. He couldn't concentrate!

He dropped the key and bent over to retrieve it.

Crest however reached the keys first and held them out for him. Never a man to mince words, he simply told Kevin, "Sorry."

"Please, don't hurt me. I promise to not come near Sam again." He took the key from Crest but didn't move to open the door.

"Shut up and listen." Crest commanded.

"I want to apologize for my behavior towards you. You're not going to forgive me, I've wasted my breath, the end." He turned to start walking away.

"Wait," he called out. "I forgive you. Thank you for apologizing..."

He turned a glance back at him over his shoulder, "Why?"

"Because you regret it. Why should I hold on to it when you regret it?"

He stared at him in contemplation. Crest wouldn't have allowed such amnesty to anyone who wronged him in such a way.

"Thank you for my key. I guess I'll see you around then." He turned back to his door and unlocked it.
