'You don't understand Chase, i know something's wrong with me, but i can't work it out. I feel so useless..' she buried her face on his shoulder to cover her sobs, but she couldn't stop her trembles from becoming more violent.

"No, I don't understand." He's entirely happy in telling her that. "I don't know how to help, Ace. I... I'm sorry."

The girl barely nodded, letting her knees buckle and collapse not-so-elegantly to the floor. 'I've lost you, i've lost you...' she couldn't hold in her cries now, covering her face to conceal her tears and pure anguish.

what was wrong with her?

He frowns in confusion, kneeling next to her. Chase can begin to feel his boundaries gradually breaking, telling him to comfort her.

Comfort...

Employing the same tactics as Amaya did at Query's Maze, he reaches out to gently pry at her hands to hold with his own. "I'm here."

Her fingers laced between his, unable to look up in fear of more tears falling. 'Eagle's here, not Chase. I've lost him..' she regarded them as different people, at the moment they practically were.

'I'm sorry..' she gasped, trying to level out her tone. 'This happened because i was so stupid.' there was clear resentment in her voice now, self-loathing at a new level.

'Then why am i here bawling my eyes out, and you look impeccable? Why do i feel like i've ruined everything, that i'm insane?' she peered over at him, tears sabotaging her vision.

"Because these are the different ways we cope," he replies simply. "I close myself off from feelings. I... it feels like it protects me..."

She placed her other palm on their interlocked fingers, like it was the only motivation for her to continue talking. 'It hurts me, it hurts me so much to see you like this Chase..'

He winces again before he can stop himself, closing his eyes again and bowing his head. "It hurts to open up, though. That's why I did it in the first place..."

'Try.' she insisted, before beginning to shiver. 'I'm so confused Chase, i need you to help me.'

"But I'm hurting, Ace." He hates to admit it, but he does. "I know I was the one that did wrong and hurt you, and it hurts me. I... I can't stand the pain."

He nervously bites his lip as he realises that, despite his words, his Chase side is beginning to slip through.

'then we need to work together, neither of us are immune to our emotions.' she rose to her feet shakily, giving his hand a squeeze. 'Otherwise we'll always hurt, we have to rely on each other.'

"I..." He doesn't know what he was going to say. Chase simply nods numbly, unsure what else to do.

She reached up and kissed his cheek, before staring back into his grey eyes again. 'Was that so difficult?'

Of course she was hurt, so she stepped back, averting her gaze. 'You don't love me anymore...' Query was right, he was actually right.

"I do love you, of course I do."

And with that, despite him saying 'I can't explain', it all came rushing out.

"But you can't possibly understand how much it hurt to lose one of the two remaining people I care about to him of all people, and knowing that it was my fault... I couldn't handle that pain."
