I lean against him, still angry, but also sad. 'You think im loosing it then?'

He stroked her hair, letting the silky strands run between his fingers. "I fear we are both losing it, River."

'I'm scared.' I admit quietly,

He kissed her hair. "It's okay, we'll find a way through this." He hesitated in asking, "Do you know where Crouch is by any chance."

I snort. 'no. if i did...'

He sighed, he hadn't expected better. "Okay. If you hear of his whereabouts will you tell me? I've important, um, business to discuss with him."

'Ahriman already told me what you are doing, Death.'

"Ahriman, that bastard," he snarled.

'no.'I snap. 'You want me to trust you, yo dont hide anything like this from me.'

He sighed. "Yeah, I know. I didn't want to tell you because, well, I hate being a double agent. I'm no one's puppet!"

I step away from him, staring at him. 'Death. You are peoples puppets. what do you think that thing on your arm means?'

Ic He stepped away from her. He ripped his sleeve up his arm, showing his Dark Mark. "This is a pledge of my loyalty. This is a symbol of me fighting for what I believe is right! I am not a puppet to this. I am a master of myself."

I sigh. 'You know the funny thing, Death. In this whole what i believe is right, there is no space for traitors like me.'

He took a calming breath before he said something he'd regret. "There is a place for everyone River. They just need to find it."

'My place will be on the list of people you will be made to kill, Death. Because i would never follow Voldemort.' A small tear trickles out of my eyes. 'So everything...all this. is pointless.'

"I will make sure your name is never on that list." He wiped the tear away with his thumb. "The good thing about you being a Crouch and dating a Dolohov, is that your life will never be put in danger."

'I am not a crouch. and do you really think that, just because i am with you, nothing would ever happen? what would you do, Death, if you were ordered by him to kill me?'

He didn't answer right away. This was a tricky question. What would he do if that happened? If he didn't kill River he would be seen as a traitor and be killed in turn. Someone else would be given the order to kill her instead. If he killed River, Crouch would hunt him down and kill him regardless of the reason. Either way both of them would end up dead.

"I would plead with the Dark Lord to spare your life. Once he realises just how important you are I'm sure he'll see it my way."

'I doupt it. its better for you...if...if.' I trail off, not looking at him

"If we broke up," he finished. "Yeah, it would be easier if we broke up, but I'm not one to take the easy route out."

'But what if i am?' I whisper.
