"You killed my best friend for your own selfish glory you bastard!" -I shoot back at him angrily.-

Killed..?

Descole laughed.

"I did not kill your petty cousin. Now come... we head back to report this... victory.."

(( -curses-

"PETTY?! I swear to God... one day..."

"I will kill you..."

OOC Okay night!

"Keep dreaming, Strayer..."

Descole laughed cruelly and grabbed Crest by the collar of the shirt, pulling him near him, holding him up so hit toes could only touch the ground.

"Listen, boy,"
He hissed,
"You know nothing of pain. You agreed that you would move on no matter what happened. Be glad your cousin died in a noble way. Now... if you must, gather his body. Or stay here. Either way, I'm going back to the Ministry to report what happened."

-I glare at him, my face devoid of all merriment it once had. It became a stone maks I would be wearing for the years of my life.-

-I go over and pick up Helm's body, intending to tell the Ministry all this fiend had done!-

Descole seemed to pick up on Crest's air of decision, and he laughed coldly.

"Idiot boy," He spoke smoothly, "Do you think the ministry will believe you over me? Please... get sense. And Besides- you even try to blame me... to get me fired or worse... and you'll find Fate disfavouring... every one... of your family. Starting with your father. You understand?"

A cruel smirk, Descole began to walk back the way they came.

"Like YOU could ever take down the Strayers..." -I scoff at him.-

Descole stopped. He was tense, but that didn't matter.

His eyes narrowed under his mask, his smile growing.

"You'll see I don't have to. Fate... tends to look down upon those who oppose me. Now suck it up. Grow up. Mature. And come."

-I hold Helm's body, keeping my stony mask on and follow, staying behind him.-

(( Cut scene, or do you want to go on through to the explanation of what happened and such? Maybe even have a little Descole/Fade conversation? ))

Descole smiled as he walked.
Already, he knew that this victory meant more then just power.
It meant money, and fame, and glory.

And the more, the better...

Can we jump to a conversation with Descole and Fade? But when I get back, i gtg

(( Sure, sure~ Of course. I dunno if I'll be on when you're back, but I'll try ))

-The enemy is defeated, only one casualty. Purely statistically, this was a successful mission. But as a father of three sons, and head of the family. Each family members death brings me pain. But we are forbidden by the code to show this. Still, Crest was different. More cold, reserved. More serious. More resolute... but also more secretive. We never see him except on missions and even when we do, he refuses to speak. Helm's death must've had a huge impact on him.-

-I am now going to discuss the mission with Descole, the man whom my son had petitioned time and time again at meetings we take down for being corrupted. I hope that one of my former students would not sink so low.-

The room really wasn't much different from how it would be in years- nor was if very different from how it started as.


Descole sat lazily in his favourite chair, rubbing behind the ear of one of his wolves.
He took a sip of wine from his glass and exhaled.

On the mantle of the fireplace sat a picture of a dancing Clare. A picture that would, in days to come, be thrown off in anger and sorrow and smashed to bits. A picture Descole would both hold close to his heart, and despise at the same time.
And he sighed, and drank, and pet his wolf in silence.

-I walk into the room.- "Descole..." -My tone was calm, collected, but powerful. Like the voice of a king instructor his subjects.-

Descole didn't look up at Fade's voice, and he didn't even seem to care.
With a lazy tone, he raised the hand that had pet the wolf to acknowledge him.

"Good Evening, Fade."

"What transpired to achieve success was... regrettable."

-Once more, calm strength is present, none of my emotional turmoil is exhibited. For all any outsider could tell, I could be talking about milk being spilt.-

Descole did not look up, but he exhaled with anger.

"Don't tell me you believe Crest in what happened, Fade? Understandable that he's your son and all, but... goodness, I thought someone might have sense.."

-I look at him disapprovingly.- "The Strayer family, does not use deception. We only speak the truth and report such."

"You have always been a skilled fighter, but an auror? I do not acknowledge you as such."

Descole seemed to tense.
Even his wolf turned harsh eyes at Fade and gave a deep snarl.

"Well then, Crest must not be a true Strayer. Helm died a noble death that I could not stop. As for... what you see me as,"

The man stood slowly, sipping his wine, turning now to face Fade, his eyes narrowed from under his mask.
He continued, speaking venom,

"I don't care what you see me as. The point is, I've become the most successful and new auror there is. I've... gotten rid of our pest problem."

-I stare back into his eyes, unflinching, unhesitant, unintimidated, unmoving. Just cold, calculating, brave eyes.-

"It is as I told you when I instructed you for that brief period of time... an auror's greatest weapon is not his skills, or his spells. It is his resolve and honor. Of those two things, you have neither. You're no auror. You're just a beast."

"Your opinions of my son are your own, but never question his honor. He has in spades what you don't have at all. And hence is why, he shall be the better auror than you one day."

-My words ring with definitiveness, as though some force that couldn't be comprehended by any but me could ever pray to understand.-

Descole did not react, though his heart turned cold.

He let out a slow laugh.

"Fade... you really are funny..."

A pause, he grinned and put his hands together.
"You'll find that in the end, destiny gives me-"

He opened his hands, and between each finger was an ace.
"the aces."


A pause, he inhaled and let go of the cards, making his way to the fireplace, picking up the picture of Clare.

"... Fade, I'm surprised. You once believed in me, did you not?"

"I held high hope for you once. Note past tense. But then I saw your conduct on the battlefield. Justice does not move you. Revenge does. The prospect of killing an enemy over protect the innocent is more important to you."

"And this latest incident proves all of which I had thought."

Descole had begun to tremble.

He was still a young man- not yet what he would become in years of training.
His heart was still fleshy and warm.


His voice was hoarse, forced, hurting.

"... I did nothing wrong. I got my job done... I... I did what was needed. Helm and Crest agreed that they would finish the battle no matter what happened. I couldn't save Helm!"

He was trying to convince himself he couldn't have.
He gripped the framed picture hard and turned in fury, chucking it to the ground at Fade's feet where it shattered.

His voice raised in pure anger.

"I couldn't saved the damned boy, just like I couldn't save Clare! Like Ged wouldn't let me save Clare! Don't you DARE blame me for what I did not do! Don't you DARE call me a beast!"

-I look down at the picture at my feet and then back up to him slowly. My face had not so much as wavered during this outburst, not a single muscle was out of sorts. Inside, my calm is still abundant, despite my crushing disappointment at him and hurt of my nephew's passing.-

"Jean Descole, there will come a time when you're defeated... but not by your enemy. You and I both know it is quite improbable for most Death Eaters to strike you down. But you will be defeated by someone who fights for your cause, but has the correct means. Maybe it will even be my son. Who can say at this point?"

"But it will happen..." -I say as I pick up his picture and set it back in it's original spot.- "And when it does, you will ask yourself the incorrect question."

"You will ask why you weren't STRONG enough to defeat him. But there is a correct question to ask yourself."

"Why didn't I know I would lose?"
