'i dont know. but i would do anything to try.'

"Gee, that helps me immeasurable. Next why don't you make me the next Dark Lord?" He shot at her sarcastically.

'Why would i do that?'

"It's sarcasm you dolt. I thought at least a couple of you blood traitors would have SOME sentience."

'Oh, im sorry, brother, dearest. Its a bit hard to have a sence of hummour when your on the ground with someone threatening to kill you over the top of you'

He keeps his foot on her, "Well I'm not letting it up, so you'll have to force it off."

I stare up at him. 'If your trying to make me retaliate and hurt you, it wont work.'

"And why would I do that?"

'Because you hate the fact i want to help you?'

"Don't be ridiculous."

'Fine then. why are you doing this? What could you possibly get out of hurting me. I am your sister.'

"Teaching you how the dark works. It's kill or be killed. Mercy is irrelevant."

I close my eyes briefly, a frown settling on my face as i slip my wand into my hand. I remembered something, a blury memory from childhood. I knew i couldnt talk crouch out of this, but mybe i could show him. I silently  aimed a spell at him.

"That's it, strike out, lash against me, the one who so humiliated you.."

I dont respond to him, just make suer i have the memory in my head as i cast the spall.

It was an old memory, from when we were much younger. We were lying in the grass, a fresh black eye on crouchs face. But, as children, we didn't speak of that. Instead, I watched the sky as the clouds changed shape above me. I knew it was him, my brother, changing them, and even as a  child, it broke my head.
He stopped as he saw the silent tears running down my face, worldlessly sitting up and pulling me into a hug.
'Why are you crying, Riv?'
'I'm not.'
The denial pulled a small smile from him. 'Your an awful liar. Tell me.'
'You. You hurt because of me. Because im stupid. You always take my punishments and you never hate me for it. you should.'
'Why? I am protecting you. I want to protect you.'
I shook my head. 'No. You shouldn't. because you always get hurt.'
He sighed. 'One day, you will be able to do the same for me. One day, you will look after me and protect me. I promise.'
'I wont. I'm weak...'
'Your one of the strongest people i know, Riv. I promise. You will protect me...Because you do now. You keep me...me.' He said it quietly, and i almost didnt hear it.


I pulled myself out of the memory, glancing up at crouch.

Inside the depths of the dark soul that stood before her, a small seed started to grow in his heart. It was at best a wilting plant, but the light grew in it a little.

And this, terrified him.

"Let us... keep going"

'Keep going where?'

"We still have a auror to deliver..." He couldn't let her know it effected him, that he feared would reverse him to his weaker days.

I roll away from him, wincing as i sit up.
