History of Magic

History of Magic is a required class for all students attending Hogwarts. The class is a study of magical history. History of Magic is taught from the first year to the fifth, with the option of N.E.W.T. courses in the sixth and seventh years.

The lesson plan usually consists of lectures on the 'History of Wizards and the Magical World' (in which goblin rebellions appear most memorably). This class is similar to the study of History in the Muggle World, as particular emphasis is placed upon remembering dates, names and events.

As if the nightmare wasn't bad enough, now I got to face a different boogeyman. Binns.

If I could sow my ears shut then listen to this guy... I would.

But I'm here so... I take my regular seat, conveniently located far back enough to not draw the professors attention and close enough to the door for a quick escape. Seconds count in boring classes.

It was a strange sight to see Cynder not accompanied by her Ohmu or her Dove.
But classes were classes, and pets were... supposedly... frowned upon in the room.

The brown-haired girl carried her books in a bag that resembled that of a furry creature in the muggle world known as Totoro.
Setting her things down, she found herself a new chair, by Topher.

She seemed a bit tired and spaced-out, so her speech seemed rather disconnected and not paid mind to.

"Oh... Good..... morning Toph.."

"Huh?"

I look up, freed from the cycle my mind was running in as the rest of the world seemed parked.

"Oh hey Cyn... you okay?"

The girl blinked, sitting and straightening, brushing her bangs from her eyes and glancing distractedly at Topher.

"Oh, uh-! Yes, yes, I'm fine. Just a bit on my mind. Yourself?"

I sigh in depression, "You and me both... so what do you think the lesson is today, the growth of toenails or the drying of paint?"

Even in the depths of sadness, humor cannot escape from me.

Bending over again to look through her bags, Cynder gave a distracted laugh and nodded vacantly.

"oh, ah. I think it's on another Goblin rebellion- seem pretty popular, don't they...? ....Dear me, I think I fed the little Ohmu.."

Should I play Binns?

I float into the classroom in a raspy old whisper, I begin my instruction, "Good day, class... let us begin our lesson."

"Today, we shall be discussing... the Enzo Revolution."

At this Topher's head springs up.

A raised brow, Cynder gave a small scowl, her own interest perking.

Her hand raised politely.

"Mr. Binns, sir... isn't that the war of the evil-eye users and the wizarding world...?"

"That's correct Miss. Dustin. The uprising took place but a mere 60 years ago, a horrible occurrence in which many tragedies had transpired."

(( Dustin. -dies- I forgot that quality of Binns. Oh Good God ahahah ))

Cynder quickly flipped through the books she had.
The pages she knew so well.
She felt strangely unnerved.

In the corner, a quiet shadow watched.


The girl again raised her hand.

"I'm sorry for interrupting again, sir, but.... The books don't say much on the matter. Does the Ministry prefer to keep it quiet? They seem to do that often... Like, it's as if they don't know what happened to the man who started the uprising.."

Binns: "The details are rather sketchy Miss Dustin. You must understand that by comparison to magic itself, the evil eye is a relatively new branch of it. It's difficult to discern fact from fiction due to the unholiness and magnitude behind what happened. People were terrified of what it could do."

"Actually one old friend of mine who fought for the Ministry left me his journal and here was his account."

Topher: "Oh god I'm going to be sick..." I whisper under my breath as a disgust bagan to rise in me.

Missing Details... what a mystery!

The Evil eye, was it...?
A thought hit Cynder, and she gave a quick, fleeting glance to Topher.
It was one of confusion and concern that could, if mistaken, be seen as almost. Was it fear?

She looked back to Binns.

"Would you mind if we heard about it, Sir? This is no... Goblin Rebellion... and if it's recent... if there's little accounts? There's a chance that there are still those with Enzo's ideals hanging around?"

"Yes, let me just find it.." I pull it out from my desk drawer and blow off the crimson cover.

"There's a likelihood that the cult still exist. The entire cult based on the worship of their leader, Boniface Enzo, could still be intact. There have been fleeting rumors and legends. It's possible even Boniface Enzo himself lives, he was but in his 30's during his rise to importance in history."

"Ahh... here's the entry that best describes what happened,"

"it is day 40 of my time with the aurors and I couldn't have joined at a worse time. Our hunt for the war criminal known as Boniface Enzo is still ongoing and if what I saw today had any validity to it, prospects look exceedingly grim. We came upon a village, ravaged and lifeless. Fire had all but consumed the buildings by the time we arrived. Not to mention all occupants in the village had been killed, their hearts had apparently been stopped with those evil eyes of theirs.

There was nothing to be gained in this village. It was but a stop on their way to their ultimate objective. Mercy wasn't shown on the innocent or guilty as even the prison and all in it were destroyed.

Nothing could be salvaged except for one item. It was a burnt teddy bear. I found it on the streets and it mortified me as I picked it up. It had belonged to a child once, now it was a war orphan in it's own right.

Cynder's stomach clenched.
Her eyes widened considerably and again flicked to Topher, then back to Professor Binns.

A quiet, tall figure dwelled in the darkness of her mind. An invisible hand gripped her arm.
Fear had grabbed a hold of her.
And it made her sick to her stomach.

She felt her body tense, her mind going blank.

"I- .... T-Thank you, Professor Binns, Sir.."
Quietly, she stood.
"... I'm sorry I... I'm feeling a bit ill... I'll just be... outside the... door..."

I just shake my head, not even asking for permission to leave as I run after her, and a massive tirade breaks out in the classroom.

"They're worse than Death Eaters!"

"They should be put down!"

And similar phrases.

And I'm one of them.
