Quidditch Pitch

"If this is how you wish to live your life, who am I to tell you otherwise?" Rayne shrugged. "I'm still going to be around for a while yet. I am... concerned for your humans." She gave Pixie a pointed look.

"Hey! I'm not his, like, pet or whatever. Jeez, I'm still here!" Pixie snapped.

'She doesn't mean you specifically, she also means everyone else i'm contracted to. They're "mine".' he used inverted commas sparingly.

"Doesn't mean I'm yours." Pixie wouldn't be moved on this. The idea of belonging to someone pissed her off; she'd already been through that sort of thing, being kidnapped and forced into the Death Eaters, after all. "I'm not anyone's. I belong to me."

Rayne lifted her hands in surrender. "I did not mean it as enslavement, Miss Flame. I apologise if it came across that way."

'And i don't intend it that way either. I see you as an equal. I wouldn't want you to be a possession.' he tried to catch her gaze, remaining composed.

"Add that to the list of why you're the best guy in the castle," Pixie muttered, but there was a hint of fondness in her voice now.

'Damn straight i am.' he half-teased, pulling her into a hug. He didn't even care that Rayne was watching.

Pixie went into his arms willingly, but she was still somewhat tense from irritation. Rayne sighed and merely reminded Lukas, "I'll be around," before leaving them to it.

The tension drained from his body in seconds, before speaking. 'You ok?'

"Fine." I frown, giving him a searching look. "What was all that you said? About them cutting your tails off and... all that? It can't be that bad."

'It'd be the human equivalent of having your limbs chopped off.' it was the closest comparison he could think of on the spot. 'So yeah, it'd hurt and you wouldn't be complete without them. My tails are my lifelines in some ways.'

I whistle between my teeth. "Ok, it is that bad, then. Shit. I don't blame you for not going back."

'I wouldn't go back even if i kept my tails..' he added, trying to justify it. 'I mean, Rayne serves the Inari, and they expect you to be perfect all the time, and you really don't have any free will.'

"Really don't blame you. Ugh, that would seriously suck. You just keep doing what you're doing, Lukas, and you'll be fine. I like you the way you are, if that helps."

'cause you're amazing, just the way you are...' he began singing deliberately off-key.

"You know the words? Nope, ok, you're on your own now." I turn, pretending to start to walk away.

'the way you aaaaaaaaarre, the way you arrrrr-re.' he started shrieking louder, capturing the attention of the people flying around the Quidditch Pitch. Lukas then burst into fits of laughter, clapping a hand over his mouth.

"I don't know him!" I announce, taking a step back from Lukas but grinning widely with suppressed laughter. "Who is this guy? I don't know, I've just been chatting with him, no idea who he is."

'He's your-' he started confidently, before struggling to find a word. '-something.'

My smile fades a bit, replaced with a frown. "That's a good point. What are we?"

'Whatever you want to be..' he said quietly, not looking at her.

"I... wouldn't be opposed to making it official," I say slowly. "It's hardly going to change things between us, is it? We'll keep acting the same even if it's not."

'You don't... care what people could say?'

I raise my chin stubbornly. "Let them talk. Whatever. Doesn't matter, at the end of the day."

'You really want people to associate us as a couple then.' he shrugged, before nodding. 'I never gave a fuck what people thought anyway.'

"They were bound to find out there was something between us sooner or later anyway. We weren't exactly keeping it secret, were we? We just never mentioned it."
