Good, I've got your attention, it's kinda important i get your input on this.

I've got a few thoughts/questions I wanted to share with you, concerning RP.

Most of you know I find it difficult to be motivated for RP these days, and i've spent a long time trying to figure out why. It suddenly hit me that there's a trend in RP.

EVERYTHING is pretty much pre-planned. Every major plot, twist etc has been carefully thought out in advance, and it's a bit of a spoiler in the way, there's no surprise or excitement. The people involved nearly always know what the outcome is of a situation.

Think about it, When was the last time you truly had a long RP where you haven't been following some form of instruction?

I guess that's what i find boring about RP, the fact that things are almost forced in a way, like we're all reading paragraphs from a textbook...

It's also annoying because it limits the opportunity for people to just jump in and get involved!!! (because characters/RPers will struggle to find significant place in ideas once theyve been decided) this means less characters get to know each other, encounters are usually with the same people which becomes repetitive.

Anyone understand what I'm saying?

I just think everything is too driven by plans 99% of the time. I'm not saying throw them out the window completely, simply stop being so focused on them! There's no room for maneuvre/opportunity!

Come on guys, let's have some unpredictability, just try going into a situation spontaneously, like you do nearly every day in real life.

Seriously, do you start conversations with people and both read from scripts, knowing beforehand what the other person will probably say and the outcome of the interaction?

RP therefore loses its realistic touch. It's all wooden.

I usually just wing my rps. I do agree with you though when you said that people usually rp with the same bunch of people. I'm known for being one of those people who doesn't adventure outside of her little circle of friends -.- that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I do rp with a little group of friends, though really I would love to rp with others. Timezones are just bitches ahaha.

Do you guys find yourself using the same characters for the same sorts of thing?

Yes. All the time. To be honest, It's getting a little boring, which is why I decided to bring the cruel and unforgiving Death back.

I know we are humans of routine, but there are patterns, and then there is simply repetitive. I read RP and get déjà vu a lot.

Lets mix it up or something, plz. Try different pairings and do stuff without plans?

I I have another point i wanted to mention.

Sometimes when i log on to the forum, everyone's already in the midst of planned encounters. Whilst there's nothing wrong with it (obviously), it leaves me thinking 'what am i supposed to do now..'

You might be thinking 'just jump in Mer! Nobody would mind!'

Usually, these encounters will be two people RPing together. In a real life situation, its the same as having a private conversation.

Answer this honestly, would you go up to said pair and try to include yourself in their conversation, knowing it clearly has nothing to do with you?

Fair enough, people are talking and you can't contribute significantly to it.

Now imagine 90% of everyday situations being like this.

Some might try to pull you in because they don't want you to feel left out, but its awkward as everyone knows there's no useful place for you in this situation. Its like trying to write a review of a book you've never read, you end up talking a bunch of meaningless shit frankly.

I feel the amount of RP that involves just two people to further a private storyline has become excessive. Where's the room for idealess people like me who want to take part in RP, but aren't able to because they havent created situations of their own?

What about other people who are on less frequently and rely on other peoples stories to develop their characters?

RP almost has a bitter edge to it these days, like you have to make some sort of plot to be involved. Its actually quite isolating...

Simply put: we need each other, let's do group stuff. Its more entertaining and varied when you do, it really is.

You guys know that any of you are welcome in any of my RPs when i actually have ideas. Heck, you don't even need to ask!

Sorry for my rambling, i felt it need to be said.

Group rps are fun and they do (hopefully) entertain all of us, but sometimes when there's too many characters in one place at one time, it gets a bit confusing.

For example: the Battle of at the Black Lake (yes I have now made that its official name). So much was going on and so many characters were running around it was hard to really keep up with who was where and what was going on.

Also, some of us have slow computers or we're on mobile devices or we aren't on long, thus making group rps harder to play out and keep up with.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do it, but those are probably some of the major contributing factors as to why we don't rp in groups often.

of course there needs to be a balance between them both, i'm just saying there isn't at the moment.

Most people's RPs don't really affect or mean much to other characters, so it's almost like everyone is just doing separate stories clumped in one set of places. You don't see much inter-character growth.

You never really see how RPs have impacted on friends, family, other students etc, sometimes there's just too much going on at once or the RP is kept between 2 RPers, so there isn't enough engagement from others.

Hell, it took two weeks from Ace's revelation of being a Desouza for it to actually reach any of her siblings. That's a long time RP wise.

When I mean group RPs, i don't just mean 3+ people in a place at once, i mean lots of characters interacting with a storyline, not neccessarily at the same time.

I have a habit of planning, I'll admit.

And, like Phoenix, I would seriously like her to stop being rescued a lot of the time. She needs to do it herself unless she absolutely can't.

people need to realize that with Mer as well (not like she's ever in dnager anyway...)

Maybe this is just me, but I try to keep my characters open to whatever. That's the beauty of neutral characters really. It's easy to flow with the bad guys as well as the good so when I simply make an entrance for Jinx or Sapphire its open for anyone to just jump in because they get along with most anyone xD I agree we need more group rps, but then all participants must realize there will be pauses frequently due to the time zones and ooc stuff that sadly must be done. Variety is awesome though.. It used to be a little different were there were a ton people around, but as we've dwindled in numbers we need to change things up as much as possible. And yeah I know I'm just as guilty as anyone as I mostly rp with Crouch. Lol

But for people like me, I have a hard time getting with groups. (IRL too). It confuses me some of the time, and I just have problems... (Mental problems).

Don't get me wrong, I'm open to RPing with ANYONE, I just... Dark Lord, I have trouble explaining everything...

I LOVE how this Ministry Infiltration RP is going though, it's a bit more spontaneous.

You shouldn't worry about it Ray, we all have skeletons in our closet...

i just want everyone to be a more close knit group, because there isn't a lot of us in the first place.
