| Cayden's eyes widened with her susprise, but it was brief. She turned to Bryn, who watched with disbelief. The man couldn't believe the timing. "Amaya is your sister, yes?"
Bryn nodded, attempting to speak. "Yes i-"
Cayden cut him off again, and Bryn tried to not look upset by the constant rejection. "I would like to hear the whole story uninterrupted, if I may. Please tell me everything you want me to know." Her smile reached the corners of her eyes as she met Topher's nervous gaze. Her whole body radiated warmth and trust in that moment; she truly was trying to help the young heir. | |

| "Well you see..." He started from their first meeting on the Eiffel Tower and the people who chased them. He wasn't quite sure if he should mention the warehouse yet but left it at they were holed up somewhere safe.
"So yeah... So I decided to come here and ask for help..."
"And then I knocked on the door if you want to get specific about it." He smirked at his light joke as he placed himself against a wall.
Dryly, he added, "But she's pretty nervous about all this. Didn't want to just announce her to ministry given how much they 'love' death eaters right now. They'd get a firing squad by the end of the day. Only wanted it to be with people I trusted in here..." | |

| Conflict was clear on his face, but the boy did not need much convincing. Topher had confirmed all that he'd known already - that the girl was skittish, wanting to defect and hiding for fear of her life. If she already had attempts on her life, then her claim to defect must be genuine. He considered that the attack could've been set up, but by Topher's description it seemed unlikely. The intent to hurt the girl had clearly existed.
The question was: what was he going to tell Crest? The man trusted him to take appropriate measures, which would be to let Cayden handle the situation. But then again, Crest wanted to question the girl. Maybe he could do it under Cayden's supervision..?
Cayden nodded, her lips forming a thin line as she thought. "You were right to come to me, thank you for trusting me with this." She began to scribble on some parchment, quill racing across the paper.
"I will protect her myself. If she truly is a turncoat, then I will know about it soon enough. I will give her the benefit of the doubt, for that is the only fair thing to do. She will not be pursued by the Ministry under my orders, as long as she doesn't stir trouble of course."
"I want to question her myself, or delegate someone I trust to do that. Do you feel she is at a safe place right now? If she is likely to be found, I want her to be moved. Her information could be the key to cracking our growing problem." Cayden was not reluctant to admit that there was a strong possibility the Death Eaters were reforming, especially from hearing the words of Bryn and Crest. The woman's information would be invaluable. | |

| "Yeah we're holed up pretty solidly I'd say." Throughout his escapades with Joachim, Topher had learned the difference between a sturdy hide out and a hiding as useless as a mere line in the sand. The warehouse he saw definitely fit into the former. This lady knew what she was doing that was for sure. Topher almost wished he and his best friend had discovered her before she joined up with the ex-Dark Lord. She would've fit into their ne'er-do-well lifestyle like a glove, and would've certain had a more sunny outlook on life.
"So I know you want to meet her and all, but how exactly are we gonna do this? I doubt she'll just open up the front door for you and coming here is not even worth considering." | |

| "Surely if she wants to help the Ministry, she wod not be adverse to seeing Cayden, even if its in a random.place away from wizarding eyes." Bryn pointed out, in which Cayden nodded.
"Yes - we should cut out the middleman. I want her directly to know that she can trust me and I will not take any action against her and neither will the Ministry when I'm involved. Perhaps we could meet her in a muggle area so there are unlikely to be people that recognise her." | |

| The young man thinks it over in his mind, "yeah I don't see any problem with that. How about I go back and talk to her and owl you with the location?" | |

| "Allow me to escort you." Bryn's tone was a little more forceful than the situation required, alerting Cayden to the fact he most likely had ulterior motives in meeting the girl. Her trust in Bryn would be broken when she saw the guilty crime, rather than in the current moment however.
"That would be acceptable." She nodded to Bryn, accepting his offer whilst letting Topher speak to the informant again. Cayden worried for the woman's safety, wary she would be caught in crossfire should there be any misunderstandings.
"I look forward to hearing from you, Mr Noir." She smiled again, trying to reassure him. "you have my word she will be protected."
Bryn wrote an owl to Crest describing the encounter in great detail, adding he would be visiting the informant in person along with Cayden. He did not think any action should be taken til then. | |

| "But..." he thought that the whole point of meeting at a neutral location was so no one had to go to each other directly. Donia might not approve of this...
But he sighed, doubting he would be able to talk them out of it. "Alright...
-------
Crest read over what had transpired. What would they gain by this? Odds are she was lying to them.
'Do not read aloud. She's playing us. They don't feel remorse or change sides. This is a ruse. Let me just follow you and take her down now.' | |

| "Do not take me for a fool Brynmor, I know what your motives are." Cayden announced, before explaining to Topher. "Bryn would like to accompany me because he has intentions of seeing the girl herself and questioning her in person. How far this questioning will go, I do not know. But I won't let it happen." Cayden's tone held no note of annoyance, but it was obvious she was disappointed.
"However he may come along anyway, for I do feel there will be no fighting - on my and Brynmor's end. After what happened with your sister Bryn, I trust you'd be more civil to a defector?"
Bryn gasped, lips settling into a frown as all thought turned to Sydnay. "No, you're right. I won't lay a hand on her Topher." He swore to the boy, meeting Topher's skeptical gaze.
The letter in his hands turned to fire, but Bryn only wrote one line in response.
Even if she is playing us, I have to give her the benefit of the doubt, for Sydnay. There will be other times to intercept her, I'm sure of it. | |

| Minutes crawled by with no return response from Crest. His mind had been made up.
Topher let his anxieties settle. He was already biting off way more than he originally bargained for with this, but he'd be damned not to see it through. "Alright then..." | |

| "Expect Crest." was all Brynmor said to Cayden, who nodded and grasped her wand carefully in her hands. She was clearly a master of her own abilities, rowan wood settling between her fingers like an extension of the woman's body.
"Then we shall reconvene at a different location." she whispered the muggle bar she had in mind to Brynmor, before she told Topher. Bryn had promised to follow Cayden's orders, so he would also stop Crest if he had to. This was for the benefit of everyone, he strongly believed. | |

| Crest set down Topher in the office. In that split second he'd had to respond to getting them out alive, this was the first place he'd thought to come. He didn't know why...
After all, they had completely botched this.
Had they just been smart, and took down the threat at first opportunity, none of this would've happened. He could've done it and should've but...
But he wished to try it their way, see if maybe there was any sort of rhyme or reason to it.
There was none. Their method was impractical, inefficient and left lots of room for mistakes.
They were good people, and that was exactly the problem. You can't hunt a predator by being prey.
Crest had no such delusions.
"You're alright?" He inquired of Topher.
Topher gave a thumbs up, trying to muster a confident smile but failed, "Yeah thanks. Really owe you one."
Crest didn't reply, instead turning to Cayden and Bryn. "Don't interfere any longer." He warned as he got ready to apparate again.
Anger aside, the pounding in his heart was also gripping dread not that his face would show. Their methods had nearly gotten all of them killed and Crest had no desire to add more bodies to his conscious. It was better if he did things as he always did them. Alone.
He'd be unhibited, and the risk to life would be minimal. Only himself actually. He could travel faster, and be harder to detect on his own. | |
