Shapeshifters are, in a sense, not human at all. They are also a seperate breed from metamorphagi.
They are able to shapeshift at an early age, though they usually can't hold full-body changes for long.
They are born in their 'true form' which might take the form of any animal- (mystical creatures like Dragons/Unicorns/etc are the most rare)- and soon change to look like a human baby once born.
Once old enough, and once certain feelings are met, the shapeshifters grow a magical mark on them which contains the spirit of their true form, which they can turn into and back from quite easily- though sometimes it takes time to control the transformations.
Unlike humans, Shapeshifters are fast multipliers, though it's very rare that one is actually born. Only if the couple who have slept together really love eachother, with at least one with shapeshifter ancestors, can produce another shapeshifter.
They are like mice when it comes to birth. Though they can have twins or triplets, it's usually only one child per pregnancy.
Gestation period is up to 21 days, and they can breed again shortly after.
Child growth after birth is the same as humans, however, meaning they grow like any other child.
Shapeshifters can remain quite secretive, so do be wary.
