Today was her first day at Hogwarts. She had been waiting for this day for weeks, months, years and now it was here. She felt slightly nervous when she had recieved her letter, but her excitment over powered her other emotions.
She was one of the oldest at the Orphanage and at last she would leave. She never wanted to go back. She hated it there, she hadn't made any friends. She remembers her first day there, no one had even noticed when she arrived. She was only happy when Dumbledore visited her and told her stories about Hogwarts. She didn't really mind which house she was put in, though she didn't want to be in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff that much. Her favourite house has and always will be, Ravenclaw.
She packed up her belongings into an old trunk. She looked at the bedroom which had been her bedroom for the past 10 years, for the last time and walked out. She was getting a lift to Platform 9 and 3/4 by a wizarding family, who were quite close to the Orphanage. She went outside to see the family standing outside a rather small car. She turned back to look at the Orphanage. A few young children waved from their windows and she waved back. She felt sorry that they weren't leaving yet and smiled sadly. She looked back at the family who had taken her trunk and put it in the back the car. Suddenly, a black cat ran out of the building and she bent down to pick him up.
"I would never forget you, Sirius." She whispered into his fur. She walked back to the car and the man with brown hair and dark eyes opened the car door for her.
"Do you have everything?" He asked. She nodded. She and the rest of the family got into the car. The engine started and they were finally on their way to the Hogwarts Express. In the car were two boys, both with borwn hair and green eyes. They looked roughly the same age, one a bit older. in the fornt seats were their mother and father. The family chatted amongst themselves. She caught some of the conversation but she wasn't really paying attention.
Why couldn't she have the perfect family? She had been brought to the Orphanage just a week after she was born, after her parents split up.
At last, they came to the station. She got out the car, grabbed a trolley and loaded her trunk onto it. The parents of the boys waved them goodbye and they started towards the barrier between Platform 9 and 10. She remembered Dumbledore telling her about it. "You just run straight into the barrier!" he had said. When she had first heard this she thought he was crazy, but she knew it must be true. She looked up to catch the younger of the two boys disappear into the barrier.
This is it.She picked up Sirius and put him ontop of her trunk. She looked forwards and broke into a fast run. She waited for the feeling of crashing into a wall but it never came. She looked in front of her and saw a crowd of people. When she saw the Hogwarts Express she grinned. She attempted to pick up her trunk but it was too heavy.
"Need some help?" The older boy asked.
"Yes Please!"
He loaded it into the compartment. She held onto Sirius and went onto the train to find somewhere to sit. She found a free compartment, hoping no one would join her. Sadly, a group of people who looked a bit older than her came into the compartment, chatting loudly. She moved right up to the window and looked out trying to ignore the other people. The train started moving and the scene changed outside to green fields and blue sky. She closed her eyes and before long realised she had fallen asleep and woke with a start as the trained jolted to a stop. The other people quickly left the compartment and she followed after them. She felt hungry.
She jumped off the train and immediately noticed it was dark. The surroundings were forests and mountains.
Wow!Among the chatter of the other students she heard a loud voice.
"Firs-years! Firs-years over 'ere!" She saw a very large man with a bushy brown beard beckoning students towards him. She went over and waited with the other students, until all the First Years were in a huddle beside him. She saw the two boys go off in a completely different direction.
The crowd of first years started moving down a narrow path surrounding my trees. When the path ended she had to push forward to see the lake everyone was gasping at. At the shore were several wooden boats.
"No more'n four to a boat!" The largee man shouted as several students had already gotten into a boat.
"Oh an' if ya don' know me name, its Rubeus Hagrid."
Hagrid. She was going to have to get used to the people around here. She got into a boat with three other girls in it. two of which had brown hair, the other one had blonde.
"Oooh, I like your hair!" The blonde girl exclaimed. Sherbet touched her light blue hair, feeling a little self-concious.
"Urmm thanks." is all she could say. Fore the rest fo the journey everyone was silent, taking in the castle. When they made it across and got out the boat she could swear she saw the Giant Squid Dumbledore told her about.
She walked with the others up a dark tunnel. After a few minutes they came to the Castle doors. There were murmurs of excitment, but Sherbet was shaking. She was nervous for the sorting and what the other students would think of her. hagrid knocked on the door and it swung open, revealing a hall with stone walls, each lit with flaming torches. Sherbet found it mysterious and inviting. A stern faced witch was waiting for them inside. She had black hair and Emerald-green robes.
"I have the firs-years, Professor McGonagall." Hagrid said.
They followed McGonagall into a small chamber where she explained what was going to happen.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. You will we sorted shortly, before the new term banquet. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own values. If you do well and succeed in your classes, you will receive House Points. The House Cup is given every year to the House with the most points."
She hustled them out of the small chamber and lead them to the hall doors. When she opened them Sherbets eyes widened in amazement. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. each table were laid with Golden plates and Goblets. The hall was lit by a thousands candles, floating in mid-air. The Professors had a table at the front of th hall. Sitting in front of the table was a stool, and sitting on top of it was a scruffy looking hat. She swallowed and the hall went silent then, the hats brim opened and burst into song.
What the?! it sang a song about each house and their different values.
"Apparently, it spends the whole year thinking up another song for the new term!" A small boy whispered behind her.
When the hat finished it song, the whole Hall burst into applause. She joined in, but she couldn't help but stare at the hat in awe.
Finally, it was time to be sorted. The first name was called, the short boy, he was sorted into Hufflepuff.
The next few were sorted into Gryffindor and Slytherin. It was the blonde haired girls turn and she was sorted into Ravenclaw. Time passed and finally it was her turn.
"Blizzard, Sherbet!"
Everyone turned to look at her as she made her way up to the stool. She picked up the hat and put in on her head. It seemed like ages had past eventhough it had only been a few moments when the hat finally shouted:
"RAVENCLAW!"
She couldnt contain her happiness and grinned widley as she made her way to the Ravenclaw table where everyone was clapping and cheering. She sat down next to the blonde girl, who was also grinning.
"I'm Goblet, Goblet Dream." She said, holding out her hand. Sherbet took it.
"I'm Sherbet."
When the sorting finished, Dumbledore stood at the front of the hall.
"Welcome to Hogwarts, old and new students, let the feast begin!"
The plates in front of them were suddenly piled with food. Roast potatoes, carrots, steak and gravy. She was so hungry she managed to eat the whole lot. For pudding they had a huge slice of treacle tart. All the students in the hall were chatting away, about their lessons and Quidditch. Sherbet wanted to try out for the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team, but first years weren't allowed.
The feast finished and the Professors introduced themselves. The head of Ravenclaw was a very short man called Professor Flitwick. He seemed nice enough. At least she wasn't in Slytherin, Profesor Snape looked sly and evil. She wasn't going to escape him that easily though, she had Potions with him first thing tomorrow morning.
They were shown up to their Common Rooms. They walked up the Spiral Staircase and came right to the door. The door had an eagle knocker on it and it spoke:
"Which came first, the phoenix, or the flame?"
Oh! We had to answer a riddle to enter!"A circle has no beginning" Sherbet said, without realising.
Everyone turned to look at her in surprise as the door swung open. inside everything was blue. The book shelves were stacked with books.
I'll explore tomorrow.In two corners of the room were a set of steps, one leading to the Girls Dorm, the other to the Boys. She walked up the stairs and entered her Dorm. She collapsed onto the bed, which had a blue embroided quilt and pillow.
She pulled off her Converse, cuddled Sirius and closed her eyes, not knowing what her life at Hogwarts would uncover...
