His face paled slightly, nodding stiffly. 'That makes sense... thank you.' his shoulders were raised in anxiety, almost scared.

I notice his shift from calm to stiff, raising one of my eye brows, "Are you okay?"

'I will be.' he blinked, letting the fear drain from his body again. I'll be fine.. 'I've just been more complacent than I should've been in my stay here.'

"Ahh... I see..." I nod.

He became at ease again, placing a warm smile back on his face. Considering he was a fire kitsune, that didn't take much effort for him. 'I assume you are not one interested in power?'

"Not so much. I'm interested in knowledge, which is power."

'Good, that will serve you well.' He proceeded to explain. 'I tend to offer abilities or contracts with humans, more to protect myself and to give them some sort of physical power they covet.'

He thought about his array of contracts, including the ones with Crest, Amaya and others.

"Interesting..."

Lukas has a LOT of power over Crest....
like, full on possession. He practically owns Crest's soul if he wanted to.

IC I shake my head, "I'm sure. Everything comes with a price, and I'm not sure that this price would be good..."

ic 'It depends what you wanted. I'm more... fair than other kitsune. Most of what I offer comes cheap.'

"Even so, there's nothing that I really want."

ic 'As you wish. Maybe we can just be friends then? That comes with no strings attached.' He promised.

"All right. That sounds fair." I give him a friendly smile.

'So tell me more about yourself.' he insisted, dropping his usual arrogant bravado.

"Well, there's not really much about me to tell. I love to read and learn."

'Sounds more interesting than most people i've met.' he admitted honestly, smiling. 'you've got the right ideas, people never got smart from constantly fighting each other.'

"That's true... To me, violence doesn't really make anything all that better. If one side wins, the other side is just angrier and will eventually rage war again."

'Or the bodies pile up and everybody loses..' he shrugged. 'I try and stay out of war, protect the people i'm friendly with.'

"Exactly. War makes matters worse..."

'It's a shame the rest of the people here don't see that though. Although I like chaos, mindless death doesn't serve anyone.'

"It does not. But sadly, we can't really change how the world works."

'True. I've been here long enough to know that.' he shrugged. 'Guess you just gotta focus on yourself.'

I nod in agreement, "Yes..."

'Was there anything you wanted to ask me?' for now, Lukas wasn't lying.
