The Viaduct Courtyard[1] (also known as the Entrance Courtyard) is a quadrangle in Hogwarts Castle. A covered stone cloister with an open colonnade runs around it, and two checkpoint towers flank its entryway via the Viaduct. There is a stone walkway leading from this courtyard into The Quad, and into the Viaduct Entrance. The courtyard is partially paved, in a cross pattern.[2]
A popular hang-out spot for students of all Houses, this courtyard is where some students spend their spare time playing Gobstones.[3]

On 1 September, 1997, Hogwarts students marched through this Courtyard under the supervision of Death Eaters Alecto and Amycus Carrow and Headmaster Severus Snape as they were led into the Castle.

Vine was pacing, looking at the time, not much excited but curious about their dueling. Ice was not a weak witch and he didn't really want to hurt her, just wanted to show that dark arts is not just about books.

Ice came running into the Viaduct Courtyard, seeing Vine already pacing like a caged tiger. "Sorry ... I hope you didn't think I'd back out. Crouch ... held me up a little."

"i thought you chose to spend time in the claw tower reading about stars. Well, sky is full of them tonight, isn't it?" said Vine in a mocking tone and fixed his tie.

"Let's get this over with, Vine. Rules of the duel?", she said impatiently, hoping, despite herself, that he would at least limit himself somewhat.

Vine continued to hold his gaze on her and smiled,
"Rules? I thought you were a slytherin, Ice. We have no rules."
Looked at the sky again and laughed,
"Let's try not to..." looked at Ice again, "...kill each other."

"A-alright. Let's try not to.", she said, grabbing her wand and getting into a duelling stance. So they would be fighting until one of them was too weak to fight or ... she didn't want to think about it. She nervously licked her lips.

Vine raised an eyebrow and smirked, hoping his confidence could intimidate her. He made his left hand twitch slightly for the wand,
"Ladies first..." waited for her spell.

She waited a few seconds, just long enough for him to maybe think she had lost her nerve, then shouted the incantation for her Boggart spell, hoping that Vine, like some of her opponents in Knockturn Alley, would have relaxed just enough not to throw up a strong Shield Charm in time.

Vine casted "Protego" with a swift snap of his wrist, was ready to cast it since he gave the first chance to Ice. Unfamiliar of the spell Ice casted, his eyes widened with terror, Protego was effective to some extent, it didn't have the full effect on him, however he started to see himself falling down from a high cliff, he looked up to see who pushed him and saw Fox standing there. He was falling down so fast, however before he hit the ground, the illusion was broken. Although it felt like hours, it actually lasted only mere seconds.
With a harsh, jerking movement, sent a blinding jet of dark green light towards Ice, whispering "Clamor ".
O o c: It is supposed to make you hear very high sound of children burnt in fire

Ice screamed "Protego" just a second too late. Her head was suddenly filled with an inexplicable agonised screeching. It was horrifying. For a tiny instant, she could not think straight. This was a completely new curse to her, but she had had similar stuff thrown at her before. Just an illusion, meant to confuse her. She wouldn't let it. "Praefoco!"
o o c: Meant to be a strangling spell. IF it hits you full force it'll cut off your air supply.

While you were suffering, Vine says these words (before you hit me with your spell):
"See Ice ? Did you read about these children, too? Do you know why they are screaming, why they are crying! Dark arts is not reading about the spell! It is about what it can do!"
Then Ice's spell hits him and he stops talking. His eyes become red and starts to feel dizzy with lack of oxygen. Points his wand and himself and concentrates hard on doing a non-verbal spell. Feeling a surge of adrenaline course through him, his survival instincts help him with the non-verbal spell, unlocking the strangling. Sends another powerful bolt hurdling towards Ice, - you will know what dark arts mean - thinks to himself.
"Cruentus!"
o o c: Makes you feel like a vampire, thirsty for your own blood, so you will want to drink your own blood, biting your wrist

This time, Ice's shield charm was not strong enough or maybe the curse was too strong. Either way, it sliced through the shield like a hot knife through butter and hit Ice straight in the chest. She expected agony, but for a moment she felt nothing at all. Then a strange kind of hunger spread from her stomach through her entire being. She could feel her blood running through her veins ... blood, so delicious. Before she knew what was happening, she had snapped her jaws shut around her own wrist so hard she broke the skin.
The pain cleared her mind for a second, but then she tasted her own blood on her tongue ... so delicious ... damn it, she had to focus.
She pulled her bleeding wrist away from her mouth, lifted her wand and screamed "Serpensortia!" hoping that Vine would be distracted long enough to drop the curse, because she would not be able to fight the blood thirst for long.

o o c: Yes, I know, half a novel lol! ... answer whenever you feel like it. If I post anywhere else, same as for you: It's before the duel.

Vine watched Ice, feeling a sick satisfaction.
Jumped back as Ice conjured the snake, snake started coming towards him hissing loudly,
Vipera Evanesca!
His curse on Ice was broken.

The curse broke and Ice's mind was clear again. Only now did she notice how much her wrist actually hurt. Damn it, she hadn't even known she could bite down that hard. But never mind now, she wouldn't bleed to death from that, she could take care of it after the duel.
Quickly, before he even raised his wand to cast the next spell, she raised her own and screamed: "Excaeco"

o o c: Blinding curse ... but it's only temporary, of course. But seriously, you don't have to let it hit you. You can defend yourself once in a while. Wink

He was distracted by Ice's wrist that before he could cast his next curse, Ice's spell hit him, now he was in complete darkness, "Shit..." he whispered and randomly flicked his wand, hoping the spell hits Ice.
Capio Capillus

O o c: It is supposed to make you start pulling out your hair. Twisted Evil It can slightly hit you and have less effect, up to you.

Ice only just managed to jump out of the way ( o o c: You said it CAN hit me ... geek ). Strangely enough Vine had a pretty good aim even while blind!
She knew that her curse would fade within seconds and wanted to cast the next one when she suddenly realized what Vine had just thrown at her: "Capio Capillus? What the hell are you playing at, Lestrange? That's child's play!"

"Don't you miss our childhood, Ice? You used to love that spell." Laughs and then face becomes serious again.
Vine did not doubt that she loathed him. He didn't like it, but he did not blame her. Yet, it was time to do the last round...
"Crucio"

-Watches from a distance, concealing himself from sight, ready to intervene if things went too far. He hated the idea of having to interrupt Vine's duel if needed, but he did have his own plans to think of and they required Ice to live. As much as he hated the idea, it was better in the long run, but for now just watches-

Before Vine had even finished saying "Cruci-", Ice had already instinctively ducked away. Damn it, he was getting serious now. And there was no blocking that.
(o o c: I'll duck for now, doesn't mean I won't be hit next time, so don't worry. I'm not going to play invincible all of the sudden).
She could feel the Unforgivable fly past her, right above her head. If she had ducked a second later ...
"Reducto!", she screamed, aiming right at Vine's legs, knowing they'd be shattered if the spell hit him.

PROTEGO!
Blocks the spell,
There was no word that Vine could conceive of that would describe just how much he wanted to hurt Ice at that moment, the first round was unsuccessful and he knew even if that would hit Ice, it wouldn't have much effect on her. He thought about all those moments Ice rejected him and humiliated him in front of his family and friends, he imagines in his head the picture of him staring down at Ice, her frame violently shaking, her eyes wide and fearful as she looked up at him. The picture made him feel powerful and satisfied, he wanted it, so intensely,
CRUCIO, you blood traitor!

O o c: Whadup dude Razz
