The Forbidden Forest

He shook his head. "I ain't got everything..."

"A last name, a Dark Mark, a family. The Death Eaters are as close to a family I'll ever get." He shrugged. "I'll take it whether it kills me or not."

'Exactly, be grateful.' she almost snapped, before sighing and dropping to the ground again deftly.

Perhaps the time is right for him to try his animagus form in the forest... maybe having the scents of the trees and the dirt around him will help him. Who knows?

Red stalks through the forest, his dark brown eyes flicking back and forth as he checks for anyone who could be following him. He wants to keep this form a secret, so it can be used an escape route if he needs it.

He creeps further into the trees, the tension starting to drain from his posture.

He sighs once, then straightens, glancing around once more.

Perfect. Quiet. Peaceful.

Hateful.

But useful.

Red grits his teeth and attempts to force the transformation on himself. Pain shivers across his skin in a ripple as it begins...

... horribly slowly.

He supposes that speed will come with practice, but now... It's agony. Aching muscles, prickling skin, cracking bones... And he still hasn't even completed a transformation.

He stays silent, despite the trembling of his limbs. He bites his lip to keep any whimpers held in his throat, which only adds to his pain. Eventually, he has to stop it; it's too much.

Red slumps against a tree, gasping for breath, as most of the features of his animagus form begin to melt away again, aside from a fine layer of fur on the back of his hands, where they'd started to become paws. He growls and thumps his head against the tree in irritation.

"Dammit!"

He growls again, the sound halfway between human and feline. "How would you know so much about it? And what are you doing here?"

His eyes widen, caught between fear, anger and interest. "Huh."

"Yeah," he replies shortly.

Part of him almost adds 'Can you help?', but his pride holds him back.

"How? I haven't so far." His hands become fists at his side as the last of the bristly fur disappears. Red spares a moment to be disappointed, but he quickly pushes it aside.

He recoils into the trunk of the tree slightly. He grudgingly considers this girl stronger than him; she has the ability to transform, while he can't even get through it once.

It stings, and not just physically.

Red narrows his eyes and spits, "What is the right technique, then?"
