As many of us who have taking some kind of combative sport know, technique really makes up the fighter.

I was inspired by a series of video I saw on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/Jensaarai1

So here, you can talk about how your characters fights:
Physical Capabilities:
Magical Ability:
Combat Style:
Weaknesses:

PostSubject: Crouch Jr   sound - Combat Styles EmptyMon Nov 12, 2012 7:06 pm

Physical Capabilities: Crouch is a young man in his late teens and is in very good shape due to his innate desire to fulfill any task the Dark Lord gave him. While his werewolf and vampire blood supplied him with many natural defenses, such as fangs and keen senses, he opted more for overpowering his opponents and as such used these gifts as only a last resort.

Magical Abilities: Having been trained by the greatest dark wizard of all time and having a natural inclination, Crouch was exceptionally powerful in the Dark Arts. There were few in his time who could match him in sheer skills. Curses and legillimency were often utilized by Crouch to devastating effects. He also had charms and transfiguration at his disposal but he rarely, if ever, used them. He was also able to invent spells, but he needs a lot of preparation for this.

Combat Style: Crouch focussed on at first weakening his opponents physically or psychologically with either a cruciatus or a legillimens spell respectively. Upon doing so, he would then use everything in his arsenal to kill his opponents. Often he would use weaker spells and then use progressively stronger ones depending on how well/poorly his enemy was doing.

He preferred his fights to be short and brutal, often going to outright killing curses when he was 'getting bored' of an opponent. He wasn't used to fighting people who stood on the same level as him and was liable to let his emotions take control of his judgment.

His fighting style was best suited against multiple opponents but was still effective in single combat, if not more devastating because his power was focussed then.

Weaknesses: Crouch is INCREDIBLY arrogant and often won't take his opponents seriously until they manage to land a attack on him. As stating earlier, his emotions do get the better of him frequently.

Also as his magic developed far earlier than a normal child, his body became accustomed to having reserves of magic at his disposal. Whenever this store is depleted, he could potentially die the same way one would from lack of nourishment. This condition was called Prodigium Lassitudine.

Also fire was effective against him, being a vampire, as was sunlight. However he compensated for these weaknesses.

Being a werewolf he had a very keen nose. However this also came with the price of being incredibly sensitive. A foul odor would magnified to him.

As well, Crouch is heavily reliant on his magic. Stripping him of his wand would throw him completely out of sync.

actually, the seven theories of power COMBINED make you a better fighter. No use having Technique (otherwise known as concentration) alone.

Mass
Reaction (Time)
Speed <-- most important

Breath control
Equilibrium
Concentration/technique
Sine wave (fluidity of movement)

^ta-dah.

I'll talk about Amaya shall i? none of my other characters fight direct apart from Sydnay.

PostSubject: Artemis Strayer (Sound)   sound - Combat Styles EmptyTue Nov 13, 2012 6:54 pm

Physical Capabilities: Having spent the early years of his life in intense, almost inhumane training, Artemis in his teens was in incredibly good physical condition. He was strong, fast, and durable. He was able to perform acrobatic moves that he commonly incorporated into his dueling style.

Magical Ability: Artemis's magical abilities were strong, almost on par with the greatest wizards of his time. He was capable of using nonfatal curse however he was more than willing to apply charms and other types of spells. One of his greatest strengths were the Strayer spells, a series of spells invented by his family that only they knew. As well, the speed at which he could fire spells was incredibly rapid.

Combat Style: To suit his desire to protect the innocent and quickly takedown criminals, Artemis's combat style was very single opponent based. He would concentrate his spells on a single enemy and would strike with accuracy as opposed to wanton damage. He would often try to overwhelm his opponents with the speed of his abilities as to gain an advantage. He preferred shorter fights, as not to bring unnecessary pain or risk anyone's life, but he was capable of long fights if the opponent was skilled enough.

Weaknesses: Due to the narrowness in his combat style, multiple opponents can prove to be a problem for Artemis. As well, Artemis has to devote extra focus to making sure he doesn't kill his opponents and as such has to constantly restrict his abilities.

He was liable to lose focus in battle if the innocent were at risk of being harmed or worse. Given that focus in integral to his style, this is a hefty problem.

As well, unlike some of his opponents, Artemis's magic was finite and could be depleted quickly.

I'll get around to doing this at some point... I really need to think about it first, though :/

PostSubject: Topher Noir   sound - Combat Styles EmptyWed Nov 14, 2012 10:09 am

Physical Capabilities: Due to having spent years living on the streets, Topher in his teens was in very good shape. He is very nimble and fast and reasonably strong but not outstandingly. He has a competent know-how in street fighting, this is usually his first line of defense.

Magical Ability: Topher's magical abilities are average, only knowing a few spells going into Hogwarts and being a mediocre student in most subjects. His magic isn't particularly impressive itself nor did he receive any specialized training, but his Evil Eye are what makes him stand out as an opponent.

Using his eyes, he can cast bad luck onto his opponents or the surrounding environment to shift things to his favor. His eyes can also shatter illusions and at some times, he can even control events with his eyes but this is still an underdeveloped skill and he can't rely on it.

Combat Style: Surprise is Topher's game. Due to the unpredictable effects of his eyes, he focuses on keeping his opponents on their toes to compensate for his lack of magical talents. Once his enemy is unbalanced enough he'll try to win the fight physically.

Weaknesses: It goes without saying that Topher is cripplingly reliant on his eyes. Blinding him/obscuring his vision will quickly end a battle since he'd be forced to fall back on his poorer skills.

Also his lack of training and weak magic also provides a handicap that can't be compensated for without his eyes. The battle must be 100% under Topher's control in order for him to be effective.

As well, there are times he can't even predict what his eyes will do and that could come back to bite him. But thanks to years of practice this weakness hardly carries weight.

Perhaps this isn't a weakness so much for him as others but his eyes don't distinct between friend and foe and he can hurt a team mate as well as his foes when he uses his eyes.

PostSubject: Crest   sound - Combat Styles EmptyWed Nov 14, 2012 10:55 pm

Physical Capabilities: He received the same amount of training as his brothers but was stronger physically than both of them due to him taking the extra initiative to train by himself as well as under instruction. He also was a capable fencer, teaching himself how to wield a rapier.

Magical Ability: Unlike Artemis who had a wide variety of spells at his disposal, Crest had a more utilitarian approach to his spells. He only used spells that he believed to be functional in either a fight or interrogation and was quick to drop any spells he regarded as 'useless'.

Combat Style: Crest focussed on pure offense, not giving any regard for defense. Sneak attacks are how he usually begins, using disorientation and confusing his opponents to his advantage. Once this tactic had worn out it's effectiveness he would then strike head on. He was unrelenting in his offense and never surrendered.

He was also no stranger to unarmed combat and frequently used it in his duels.

Weaknesses: As stated above Crest gave no regard to defense. Also he was prone to burst of anger in his fights, albeit rarely.

It could be argued that Crest's resolve was his greatest strength and greatest weakness. He could be so single-mindedly determined in his fight that he'll lose track of the surrounding environment

Also, while he has very great magical use, he doesn't use it to it's full advantage.

PostSubject: Artisan   sound - Combat Styles EmptyThu Nov 15, 2012 5:09 am

Physical Capabilities: Artisan received the standard Strayer training. However this training was seldom put to use as physical combat almost never played into his fighting style.

Magical Ability: Enchanting magical objects was where Artisan's talents really shined. He could invent any magical apparatus for almost any purpose. This skill was by far his best and he incorporated it into his own unique fighting style that often utilized his inventions.

Combat Style: As stated above, Artisan used his inventions in combat. Often there was healthy mix of offensive and defensive creations to suit the combat situation. Versatility was a cornerstone in his technique and he was well prepared for most situations. Should his inventions not be available to him for one reason or another, he could fall back on his reasonable magical skills.

Weaknesses: Artisan first and foremost was very cocky and arrogant and this would affect his judgment but he was capable of getting serious when the situation demanded it.

Even though he COULD fall back on his magical skills, they weren't as impressive as his brothers. Also he could be goaded during battle.

Also he'll get anxious if the battle starts going unfavorably for him and this will throw him completely off balance.

Furthermore, he has to devote all his energy and attention to manipulating his inventions during battle so this often left his back open to attack.

It goes without saying that he had to carry his inventions with him, but as he used an expending charm on his back, this rubs that weakness of weight. However he still had to carry it with him.

PostSubject: Jack Nuel   sound - Combat Styles EmptyFri Nov 16, 2012 2:15 am

Physical Capabilities: Jack is pretty strong, but has more mental capabilities than physical. He has just average physical capabilities, but prefers using his intellect and mind capabilites (like Megamind! xD )
Magical Ability: Jack (As well as the whole Nuel family) was not originally created as a wizard, but I tweeked them a little to fit into it. Smile As far as his magical ability, he went to Hogwarts and learned magic, but he doesn't rely on it at all, unless he really has to. He'll only really use it to apparate. As said before, he prefers his scientific mind and his telekinetic abilities.
Combat Style: Jack fights mainly with his mind. He's in his early 40's, and he gained his telekinetic abilites when he was 16 years old, living in an orphanage. He can move objects with his mind, at will. He also uses his intelligence to create his own poisons that don't necissarily kill, but torture painfully. He usually drips his poison on his wide collection of daggers, which he also uses to fight. So in all, he prefers his mind and daggers in combat.
Weaknesses: Jack's main weakness is that he's literally an INSANE sadist. He was bullied by all his peers, and was hated by EVERYONE, including his father. His father would beat him regularly, for being the son he never wanted. This led him to want revenge on the whole world for being so prejudice against him. He let's his feelings get the best of him, and will torture ANYONE without a second thought, even if they're complete strangers.

On the outside, he's insane and hates the world, but on the inside he feels an infinite guilt and shame for what he's done to his wife and family.

PostSubject: Samantha Nuel   sound - Combat Styles EmptyFri Nov 16, 2012 2:26 am

Physical Capabilities: Sam is not very strong... I don't think I really need to explain, we all know how Sam is. Wink
Magical Ability: Sam is magically weak. She's getting better EXTREMELY slowly, only really learning from Crest.
Combat Style: Like her father, Jack, she also relies on telekinesis in a fight. But, since she's bad at fighting, she tries not to do anything until she really has to, or wants to show that she can be strong.
Weaknesses: Sam has EXTREMELY low self-esteem and MAJOR depression. She was bullied in the orphanage she grew up in, always being told she was worthless and a freak, therefore leading her to believe it. She believes she's weak and doesn't deserve every bit of good in her life. She doesn't realize that she's actually stronger than she knows. (Crest has been helping build her confidence. :3 )

PostSubject: Joachim   sound - Combat Styles EmptyFri Nov 16, 2012 8:55 am

Physical Capabilities: Having grown up essentially on the streets and living a thieves life style, Joachim was quite fit and fast on his feet. He's also a capable street fighter. He received no special training but his years of experience more than compensate for that.

Magical Abilities: Joachim's magic is not by any stretch outstanding. He's rather poor at most forms of magic. His most notable talents magically are his ability to shape shift and possibly potion making.

Combat Style: Joachim was not afraid to fight dirty at all. However he preferred a physical victory over a magical one. He would start with street fighting and if the opponent was too good for that, he'd shape shift into a chimera and fight that way.

Weaknesses: His poor magical talents certainly don't work to Joachim's advantage. Also while he was in his human form, he was susceptible to tire and his emotions got the better of him a lot.

Also even though he was a strong man in his teens, he could still be bested by someone with a more refined technique than him.
